I think that if we took all the previous generations of civil rights activists (dead) and asked them who the most important person was... They would point to Obama for the reasons I mentioned. President of the US is such an achievement that his figurehead status makes him the most important. ...

I think if you compare on a one to one basis like if wepaused the universe. And lined up every last civil rights leader on one side. And Obama on the other. Then give them all the individual choice to remove themself from history. Or remove America having a black president from history. I think each person would agree they would sacrifice themselves to keep the black president accomplishment as part of the timeline.

Yeah but by removing those that preceded him you never have a black president, and I think the Civil Rights movement and the ending of apartheid were more important than the election of a black man. Having a black man in office is great, but I think having rights, greater opportunity, heightened sense of worth and belief in our own greatness, beauty, and excellence, psychological liberation, protection from the horrors of lynching, etc. surpasses that

I don’t think we have any modern heroes because the world we live in is very much about self. I think we have a lot of inspirational people though.
