I lowkey want to out Joey Badazz here, but I think he crosses the border of "Nice" and I really enjoyed 1999, but he never really impressed me with what he said

I always felt like he was one of those guys who got the "great lyricist" tag because of the "underground backpack NY" aesthetics more than being clever, thought provoking, intriguing, a good story teller, metc...

i agree with this. he puts on a jedi mind trick on people who like underground hip hop. while you are listening, you feel like you are really hearing something, but when the song is over, none of that stuff is memorable or quotable.

Canibus.

Like he has some dope one liners, but I found him to be one dimensional lyrically. I'm shocked that people are surprised his albums or music never lived up to the hype. Wyclef was blamed because he gave him some weak production, but in reality, it didn't matter who was behind the boards. Canibus wasn't the songwriter or lyricist that he was made out to be. Take Big Pun for instance. He was versatile and could give you a song about anything while still maintaining the skill and rhyming ability. He created a great album and was successful while still maintaining the skill. He even had a song with Clef and still went in. Pun could wow you, make rappers afraid to get on a song with him, but was still versatile enough lyrically to give you a "Still Not A Player" and a "Punish Me" and then go and make a "Glamor Life" and "Dream Shatterer" on the same album.

curren$y calls himself spitta andretti and many people hold him in a certain regard since he often raps over alc production
also, people treated that last isaiah album like it was full of profound stuff.

Curren$y spits a good bar or 2 lyrically every now and then and talks some good life lessons but 90% of the catalog is just good beats and good vibes. He's considered one the main weed rappers in the game for a reason

Dom's a vibe rapper also but even less skilled, hes not so big on the weed and cars like spitta but he makes up for it with having music you could play around your lady.

Isaiah's in a slightly different pocket, but you put his music on to vibe out, not dissect bars
