my brother, i explained the type of credit i was seeing. it wasnt about vibes. it was about spitting and saying profound things. ok?

Breh you crazy. Nobody ever said Dom was some crazy lyrical cat. He spit simple playa raps over dope beats. He made dope ass music in his prime. Yellow Album considered a classic Dom record, but you don't see anyone talking about the lyricism on there.

He gets touted as one of the best but he never says anything witty or poignant to bestow those things about him.

I think people fell over themselves with his narrative; calling out Nas as an intellectual, retirement and never writing his raps down.

:yeshrug:
Yo I used to hate Jay. Hated everything about his personna. The vapid materialism. The fact that he benefited greatly from BIGs death. An obvious nerd who projected arrogance and claimed to be this high-end drug dealer. A "hardcore" rapper who clearly consulted his marketing team before releasing albums. :russ:

But to say he's not WITTY? Nah breh. He's one witty motherfukker. Got to give him that. Maybe the most witty ever on the mic.

Not poignant? That I agree with. He squandered opportunities when he was at the top of the game to drop some poignant shyt. He tried to pivot during Blueprint 1 and 2 and Black Album but that his attempts were weak.

But as he said 'you will respect me, simple as that'. I have no choice but to give him his respect as a lyricist.

J. Cole. I used to be a stan for Cole but he has continued to underwhelm and show he is mediocre plus status. every now and then he still has glimpses of that greatness we all thought he had

hes preachy and boring, 40 years old still rapping about middle and high school crushes. living that fake homeless guru lifestyle
Cole’s issue is the music as a whole. It lacks replay ability because the beats are so bad and the hooks are below average. Once you’re no longer drawn into the content of the raps it loses any kind of impact. That’s why he’s struggled so much since FUD to make music stick

Has Joey Badass been mentioned?

Not many rappers past and present are writing concept songs equip with the chorus hook. shyts impressive dawg

Pretty much elevated the concept of 'I gave you power'

Jeezy. Had some dope songs here and there but never got the fascination.
Stack Bundles rip to that man but he was way overhyped as are alot of these "street dudes turned rappers". Maino as well.
jeezy is a game Spitter

People who hustle love his music because he be talking that shyt, he make music for nikka who really was copping weight

You can tell he was active in the hustle by the way he talks.

I lowkey want to put Joey Badazz here, but I think he crosses the border of "Nice" and I really enjoyed 1999, but he never really impressed me with what he said

I always felt like he was one of those guys who got the "great lyricist" tag because of the "underground backpack NY" aesthetics more than being clever, thought provoking, intriguing, a good story teller, metc...
