Freddie Gibbs.

Some people get caught up with that fast rapping shyt he does but he's usually not saying anything special.

Beat me to it.

Dude has never said anything that made me want to listen him over and over or press rewind and I remember how folks wasn’t rocking with him like that before Jeezy and during but when he got with Madlib all of a sudden he was one the best rappers on earth.

I lowkey want to put Joey Badazz here, but I think he crosses the border of "Nice" and I really enjoyed 1999, but he never really impressed me with what he said

I always felt like he was one of those guys who got the "great lyricist" tag because of the "underground backpack NY" aesthetics more than being clever, thought provoking, intriguing, a good story teller, metc...

Ohhhhhhhh what a beautiful thread that would be…

Some of y’all definitly are skimming thru the music…

These types of threads is purely ragebait-
  • Someone invariably names someone else's favorite rapper
  • They go back and forth
  • OP gets his plat
I'm surprised no ones mentioned Nas yet to truly get this shyt poppin!

Yo I used to hate Jay. Hated everything about his personna. The vapid materialism. The fact that he benefited greatly from BIGs death. An obvious nerd who projected arrogance and claimed to be this high-end drug dealer. A "hardcore" rapper who clearly consulted his marketing team before releasing albums. :russ:

But to say he's not WITTY? Nah breh. He's one witty motherfukker. Got to give him that. Maybe the most witty ever on the mic.

Not poignant? That I agree with. He squandered opportunities when he was at the top of the game to drop some poignant shyt. He tried to pivot during Blueprint 1 and 2 and Black Album but that his attempts were weak.

But as he said 'you will respect me, simple as that'. I have no choice but to give him his respect as a lyricist.
Jay Z wasn’t a “nerd” and while he wasn’t some kingpin he was a mid level guy and OT hustler who was making good money.

J Cole. He is a studio conscious rapper. I've never heard him say anything profound, he doesn't come from the struggle so he has no pain to pull from and it shows in his music. Nikka will sing the blues about losing his house slippers or student loans. I cringe everytime he's mentioned as a lyricist :dead: He hasn't got bars and his music is god awful boring. His fans are nikkas that can't hoop and bytches that want light skin babies. Dave East should of had his gimmick. Everytime time i've given him a chance from a freestyle to an album, i'm always left disappointed.

Kendrick - I'm a fan because he has interesting concepts and topics and NOT because of his lyrical prowess
