Kendrick has and always will be trash. People hated Drake so much they were looking to stand behind anyone else. All yall got to show for it is 10 yrs of faux-deep, forgettable bs music with no replay value :camby:

Meek Mill inspired this thread. Meek has always had the rep as a "spitter" but to me, he's mediocre.

A lot of underground rappers fall in this category as well
Agree wit Meek and I also think DMX…and I love X energy, flow and sound and obviously that’s enough, but I hate when those try and act like he was a bar god…cuz he wasn’t close

Most of these people don't get named as SPITTERS on some Canibus shyt... They get named because you can literally FEEL the shyt they talking about and relate to it.

Lots of rappers had coke rhymes.. But when Hov spit it... When Jeezy spit it. When Westside Gunn spit it... you FEEL it.. When rappers talk that street shyt... Styles, Beans, Meek, Conway, Prodigy, Sean Price... You FELT it. When 3000/Nas/Scarface spit that love shyt, that heartfelt story, that spiritual rap, you FEEL it.

It's totally different than.... write their bars on paper and see how many woooooooo's you get

Canibus.

Like he has some dope one liners, but I found him to be one dimensional lyrically. I'm shocked that people are surprised his albums or music never lived up to the hype. Wyclef was blamed because he gave him some weak production, but in reality, it didn't matter who was behind the boards. Canibus wasn't the songwriter or lyricist that he was made out to be. Take Big Pun for instance. He was versatile and could give you a song about anything while still maintaining the skill and rhyming ability. He created a great album and was successful while still maintaining the skill. He even had a song with Clef and still went in. Pun could wow you, make rappers afraid to get on a song with him, but was still versatile enough lyrically to give you a "Still Not A Player" and a "Punish Me" and then go and make a "Glamor Life" and "Dream Shatterer" on the same album.
His first two albums, have storytelling, concious, and other stuff besides battle rhymes. He is an elite talent. He may not be the greatest SONGWRITER, but he did everything else between above average to god tier.

You bring up the "make rappers afraid" deal, but Nas declined to be on Desperados after Canibus destroyed it. Some say he was on there and took his verse off. Pun was one of the handful of people NOT afraid to rap with him. He had the biggest hype in the game in 97, had Wyclef coming off selling a ridiculous amount of records pushing and producing him, where are the big name features on his two major label albums?
Masta Killa

No hate. I just don't get it. I've seen brehs on here profess how dope he is and underrated but, personally, I can't listen to him. Outside of 4th Chamber, I have not heard anything with replayability. He could be a dope and insightful lecturer but I can't listen to his music.
MK is dope, but certainly not for everyone.
Prime Prodigy.

Don't get me wrong, cuz was a dope rapper. I love the Infamous. Dope voice, give it to you straight lyrics. But his status from his fans was that of an exceptional lyricist/wordsmith.
You WILDIN'.
Jeru the Damaja. I remember back in the day a lot of cats was hyping him as one of the top rappers.
Jeru was super nice. Prime Preemo beats helped, but he was spitting crazy on the forst two albums.
