:ohhh:

I know Serch is a rat cuz of how he did Non Phixion and Necro dirty but I always assumed he at least hooked Nas up.

Then I went to see Russell [Simmons], and Russell was at his apartment with a woman named Tracey Waples. I played Nas’ demo—which was ‘It Ain’t Hard To Tell,’ ‘Halftime’ and ‘I’m A Villain’—and Russell said, ‘Ah, he sounds like G Rap, and G Rap don’t sell no records, I’m not interested.’ So I said, okay, you know, and then went over to Faith Newman at Columbia, and played the demo. Faith stopped me halfway through the first song, which was ‘It Ain’t Hard To Tell,’ and said, ‘I’ve been looking for Nas, trying to get in touch with him,’ and she brought, at the time, the head of A&R, this guy David Kahne—who was like working on these pianos, like working on a symphony at the time, I’ll never forget it, just an amazing musician—and they literally wouldn’t let me leave the Columbia office until we had a deal in place for Nas. And that’s how Nas got signed to Columbia.

Serch

Nas also went back and took all his Illmatic publishing from Serch. Serch didn't "own" Nas's publishing like Jay-Z claimed but I think Serch had a small hand in it from the production deal Nas signed with him before he got with Columbia. Nas took it all back and Serch was aggy about it and called Nas "dishonorable" in either the Source or XXL, but they mended fences later on.

Do you have any objection to any of my points or just being emotional?

I think most classics or so called classics are influenced quite strongly by outlets like The Source (back in the day at least). I think there's certain albums had they lauded classic by those outlets, for example The Source everybody would look at like a classic, and other albums had they panned wouldn't be looked at the same. Unfortunately a lot of people are sheep.

I think there are albums that break the mould though, there's certain albums that may not have got that rating from The Source but the people won't allow it not to be classic, if I'm correct The Chronic didn't get 5 mics originally? All Eyez On Me also? Infact NO Pac album? Lol. But the people overall said The Chronic and All Eyez On Me was classic regardless. So I think it's possible to break the mould, but more difficult and easier if it had that stamp.

That being said, Illmatic to ME is classic and deserves the 5 mics, I would have said that even if it got 4 mics though because I fukk with the album. And likewise an album like All Eyez On Me, definite 5 mics to me, along with 7 Day Theory etc despite what any rating says, Capital Punishment also, that's an album that I feel if it got the 5 mics (which I personally feel it more than deserved) would be an undisputed consensus classic, that shyt is remarkable.

The fact that people still try to deny the greatness of Illmatic over 20 years later is telling.
