Red XIII and Cait Sith are total dead weight.

They come pretty close but chu-chu exist.

Nanaki has an epic backstory...finding out his dad held off the ghost tribe till his dying-stone death, instead of the coward Red thought he was.

Caith Sith was completely useless I agree, as was Chu Chu (being more useful since she did tons of dmg in her giant form). We have to accept these tropes as being part of the JRPG genre. Every JRPG has a silly/slapstick character.
