DAMN, that might be the one, right on the first reply.
I would also say people overlook Maste Ace, he probably not the top #1 underrated but people don't get how good his albums are, and that his influence is significant (through Em)

In terms of the whole package of rap skills...
Being that the average rapper gets a 1 to 3 year run and some never have hits, there's no way you can have a major hit hip hop song like Pharoah Monch and AZ did and be considered the most slept on.

Impossible to answer so I'll give love to someone to Insight. At a time in the mid/late 00s when Phonte, Blu, Jay Elect etc reached some level of recognize he never really got it but def deserved it.

In terms of talent compared to recognition I got to say they up there though.
Far as pure skills both are among the best of the best, put em on tracks with the recognized GOATs and they can going toe to toe every day. And unlike dudes like Canibus they got great albums too.
I don't know. I mean obviously there's dudes that could have been legends and never even got signed for whatever reason. But those two are different, special talents that should get way more recognition.
He’s not that marketable. He definitely deserves respect and admiration, skill wise. I thought he had prettt good promotion, considering we knew and heard his music in the south. I don’t think he has “it” compared to somebody like Nas, Prodigy, Jay, etc.

I hear you but if you look at his albums, he never really got big name guests outside Nas. He had the perfect style to have guest spots on big time R&B singles 1995-1999 but his management and label never hooked him up.
Puff had The Lox on Mariah Carey #1 single that dropped like two weeks after AZ single that used the same sample
if AZ was with Puff or Chris Lighty he would have had those placements and guests.

1) Canibus has great albums too. You are obviously unfamiliar with his whole discography.
2) Jean Grae, Cyhi The Prince, Saigon, Tierra Wack, JI The Prince, Envy Caine, Keen Streetz, Cordae, Young Devyn.
These are just a few examples of the full package that just lacked the proper execution in terms of a real machine putting them in the category of being slept on compared to AZ and Pharaoh Monch who had popular hit songs that people actually know due to having a well executed launch.
