I hear you but if you look at his albums, he never really got big name guests outside Nas. He had the perfect style to have guest spots on big time R&B singles 1995-1999 but his management and label never hooked him up.

Puff had The Lox on Mariah Carey #1 single that dropped like two weeks after AZ single that used the same sample :mjlol: if AZ was with Puff or Chris Lighty he would have had those placements and guests.

:ohhh:
A hit men produced AZ album in 96-98 would have been flames

Being that the average rapper gets a 1 to 3 year run and some never have hits, there's no way you can have a major hit hip hop song like Pharoah Monch and AZ did and be considered the most slept on.

Simon Says is the reason why he is slept on.

That's what Monch is known for to the average rap fan.

Not known for his diverse flows, lyrically can hang with any rapper, great catalogue.

When publications publish their all time lists, he is always on the back end of the lists 40-50, should be way higher.

He's influence in the rap game isn't mentioned enough, especially since he influenced 1 of the biggest rappers in the game (Eminem)

He gave birth to rap song concepts (Stray Bullet & Inverto) that influenced Nas to make I Gave You Power & Fetus which are mentioned as some of the best story telling in history of hiphop.

Diagnosed with Asthma & still has better breathe control then 99% of the rap game.

I can keep going.

He’s not that marketable. He definitely deserves respect and admiration, skill wise. I thought he had prettt good promotion, considering we knew and heard his music in the south. I don’t think he has “it” compared to somebody like Nas, Prodigy, Jay, etc.

Prodigy?

What did he do to be mire marketable?

Does "slept on" mean when people refuse acknowledge someones potential/appeal? Or someone people just arent privy too?

Aside from the yearly Rap Ups, his catalog isn’t really bad.

From Where???? dropping on the same as Fugees and Pac ruined him.

Luckily, he was plugged in Neptunes and Timbaland before they blew up

:duck:

first-person narratives existed way before Stray bullet, Pharoah Monch did not birth that.

Crack The Mack by Azie was 1992 where he spoke from the perspective of being crack cocaine

"I can't Wake up" by KRS came out 1993 1 year before Stray Bullet where KRS spoke from the perspective of being a blunt

I was listening to some guys online debate top 20-30 or something and they basically gave most credit for lyrical leaps to Rakim and then Nas. Completely skipped over LL. LL was the jump from Run DMC. So LL really gets overlooked in GOAT convos. He is top 10 idgaf who you pick.

I think that AZ is content with his position…

He could have latched onto QB like P did since he had the Nas connection. I’m glad that he didn’t though.
He always did his own thing, no matter what.

A true team player. Some of his independent albums aren’t bad as well.

If he had signed to a major label after Noo Trybe shut down, they probably would’ve repackaged him into a ladies rapper like they did with Twista.

I ain’t never heard a rapper really have a beef with him either(E-40’s diss was a misunderstanding due to a magazine editor so that doesn’t count).
