I'm not seeing why he's supposed to be good :leostare:

:manny:

Even if you dont like his music, you still cant be "wtf" to a true MC who's getting attention solely based off his skills and not cuz he's a typical attention whore who's usin every gimmick in the book to build up hype. :umad:

So I'm supposed to like him just because he doesn't have a gimmick :heh:

Being a gimmick-free so-called "real" artist is a gimmick too in my opinion :manny:

Not really, I see why the people like him, I just don't. I have ADD when it comes to that superlyrical storytelling shyt in 2012, plus this nikka ain't got no charisma and his vice is wierd as shyt, easy pass.

I didnt say you had to like him, but if you're a fan of hip hop, you have to respect the reasoning he's getting attention.

what, u prefer Gucci Mane, Lil B, Chief Keef, Rick Ross, and the other cornballs to dominate the headlines every week? Can't a MC get some shine once in a while? :whoo:

lyrical virtuosity
memorability
uncanny ability to weave the esoteric into the more tangible
album crafting, s80 and GKMC are both incredibly cohesive in narrative and production
storytelling ability
understanding of his place/hip hop culture
dude is getting laced with some SERIOUS production from both his in-house producers and giants in the industry
not selling out on his debut by getting shyt like stargate productions or breezy hooks
maintaining a level of street credibility while still being able to hold his own on a female oriented track with drake
killing a bunch of features
bringing an incredible level of ARTISTRY to his music. he cares about the art of hip hop
being progressive as an artist
his various cadences are insane at times, he's got incredible versatility in this regard
aligning himself with people who bring out the best in him/people seemingly always bring out their A game when on tracks with him (for the most part)

invoking an overall positive message that really resonates with a lot of people. GKMC shows in an extremely artistic manner a very real, personal yet relatable way that someone who was birthed inside a culture of what some consider madness can still maintain their positive outlook/priorities.

good kid, maad city

dat juxtaposition

nah im just fukkin with you he's an industry plant:steviej:

Good album, maybe great in the long run. Who knows what Kendrick will be in the long run ...

But this immense hypetrain rolling seems like a culmination of different groups bursting at the seams for a rapper to ride with ...

- Dr. Dre / Aftermath Street Teamers (I can't even remember the last dre/aftermath release. I don't listen to Em)
- West Coast (as a whole)
- Rookie Riders (since Big Sean, J. Cole, Wale, etc. are more or less average)
- Concept Album Fans
- Underground Lyricist Lovers

... and the fact that he dropped at least a 4/5 album (4.5 to fans, 5.0 to superfans) gives these folks someone to ride-or-die for.

I ain't mad at 'em, it's good music, but I don't think I fully grasp if gkmc = this much hype.
