Yeah, math was pretty much the bane of my academic life. I'm good with the basics but when i hit algebra is when things went downhill. Words have always been my strong point, not numbers, especially when letters are involved.

Math is used as a filter to separate people who are built for certain fields from those who aren't. It's basically a torture test of your critical thinking skills and logical reasoning. Some people who aren't good at it can become good with enough practice and hard work, but some people just ain't built like that.

First day of calc class nikkas is :gladbron:

Calc is cool, your algebra background just has to be on point or you'll spend most of the class relearning shyt that you should have learned in algebra.

I'm a beast math. I was :stylin: on motherfukkers when I moved to NY in 11th and 12th grade. :ahh: Dudes were failig tests left and right studying their asses off. I never studied and was pulling A's out the ass. :umad:

Writing though. I'm good for about 1 or maybe 2 essays a year anything but more than that. I flunked out of English 2 last semester in college. I had to write a 15 page essay and I just decided to stop going to class. :wow:

Can't wait for Calculus next semester. :blessed:

Sparking blunts in the shade.
I'm on a mission to improve myself as much as I can over the next two years and I felt like I needed to at least be decent at calculus. I've been hitting the Khan Academy, every other day and my hate for math has slowing been turning into love like. Every time I see improvement, I get excited and want to get better. I'm really starting to think the reason I've had so much math hate/anxiety, is because I heard everyone around me saying how much they hate it when I was a kid.

you failing classes...twice? :what: :camby:

You're pathetic and an embarrassment.

I'm glad you're failing.

Hopefully you can find something else you can quit at. :pacspit:

:manny:

Lets be honest.

Basking in your ignorance of not being able to grasp basic concepts and still fronting like you wish it was easier for you is the epitome of being lazy.

From reading a few posts in here, I'm seeing a lot of the same attitudes I see from a lot of people offline who "struggle" with math. There are a lot of folks who think if I put xyz amount of time in I should be able to get xyz results out.

With math, especially higher level maths, this is not the case. The common issue I find with people who do poorly in math is that they don't KNOW HOW to study properly and to process the ideas and concepts behind the math properly. They think if they read a certain portion of a book over and over again they'll get results when all you're doing is wasting time. The trick is to introduce yourself to a concept and piece together what you're doing in regards to every step in the process and also outside of just knowing how to do calculations, what you're actually doing.

Critical thinking is key instead of viewing math as just a series of numbers and formulas. Understand the deeper context of what you're doing. This is especially neccessary when you get into calc classes for example. Its easy to setup an integral for finding the volume between two curves rotating around the X axis as far as just writing it out but getting the right answer is determined by know whats going on with the calculations and why and how the numbers being manipulated to give you the information you need.

The hardest part of graduating college for me was the math requirements. Seriously, I've always been horrible at it. I'm good at everything else.

My grades were mostly As and Bs, but when it came to math I was lucky to even get a C-.

I had to take algebra three times in college, and I failed it three times. So, then I was switched to statistics. First time, flunked it. Second time passed with a D.

Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
math IS logic.

Its not going to come to you by bytching about it and trying to rush through it.

The stuff you're describing is basic shyt that you didn't grasp when you should have...so now you're working from behind.

Time to catch up. Its not going to wait for you.

You're in college and theres tons of help.

Its not meant to be easy. Its meant to be math.

if you really want to master it, you will.

You are your own obstacle.

Just remember that if you see it through, your life can change career wise.

don't be like these other people without tangible skills.

I'll show you what'll work from behind....
