What they are saying about who had that year is that they refer to hiphop.
Who was hiphop talking about? Game, 50, Jeezy and Houston.

50 was more pop, Jeezy and Game were just as hyped as far as hiphop, the streets, the blogs, the forums went. In any event I would say 50 had a slightly bigger HIPHOP year.
But TM101 being a classic and having major impact on the rap game, essentially changing it.. Might've gave Jeezy the edge.

It's quite clear that Complex ain't focusing strictly on sales and billboard charts.

It's the same reason no one cares about Eminem not dominating 2004.

Word... even as they ignore the sales and shyt.. The Massacre was heavy. But in a Hip-Hop state you have an argument I didn't think of that. Overall in the year of 2005 NOBODY could touch 50. If you include everything he did

A lake near Tampa FL
50, they played Piggy Bank in the streets of Jamaica Queens.

50 beefing with The LOX kinda hurt his momentum... that "Checkmate" diss Jada dropped was almost as powerful as ether, plus the LOX kept their foot on 50's neck in terms of dropping diss songs and later on Game started beefing with him.

But despite that 50 still easily had a bigger year than Jeezy, nikka was selling a milli first week and topping billboard charts :wow:

In terms of popularity & owning the air waves it went

50 > kanye > game> jeezy

nobody cared about ''and then what'' and ''my hood'' lol

If we considering quality 50 gets dropped to last but then kanye & game still ahead of jeezy.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
I couldn't tell you because I didn't buy either album. I bought Late Registration, Demon Days, and The Documentary.

I didn't give a fukk about 50. The Massacre was a let down from start to finish and so was the terrible soundtrack to his terrible movie.

Not knocking jeezy because 101 was a good fukking album and I don't even fukk with the south.

So Nelly and Ja Rule were>>>Jay-Z and Nas in the early 00's :why:

Jeezy wasn't some Young Scooter,Lil Boosie country sensation, he had nikkas all over the nation ridin the wave..even Hov hopped on his remix to Go Crazy. He didn't sell 10 million cause he wasn't for the cac's like 50..but he sold 2-3 million off an album that was 95% about sellin dope/street shyt without any sellout tracks, unlike ya man fif.

Now you're just putting words in my mouth. You nikkas acting like The Massacre was entirely pop. If it wasn't for that fakkit Gayme, How We Do and Hate it or Love It would have been on the Massacre. Banks probably would have been on How We Do.

Sales aside, it really comes down to this:

50 Cent had "How We Do", "Hate It Or Love It", "Get In My Car", "Baltimore Love Thing", "Piggybank", "Outta Control Remix", "Window Shopper", "Hustler's Ambition", "Ski Mask Way", "Position of Power". Those weren't the "pop" singles, these were album cuts and official singles that were big in the streets. Some of them were big on the charts as well.

Jeezy had "So Icey", "Dem Boyz", "And Then What", "Soul Survivor", "Trap or Die", "Air Forces", "Bottom of the Map", "Trap Star", "My Hood", "Last of a Dying Breed", "Standing Ovation", and "Go Crazy". Those were the biggest songs that either featured Jeezy or were from TM101. Those were the songs that were big in the streets.

If it's based on who had the streets, it's close. On one hand, Jeezy could get the edge simply because he had that much impact as the new kid on the block vs. an already established superstar. There's also the fact that Jeezy had less material, but still a huge impact. On the other hand, 50 gets the edge because he not only locked down the streets, but he also had the charts. It wasn't an either/or, 50 had BOTH.

2005 was a monster year for both, it just depends on how you look at it. IMO, nobody in 2005 was bigger than 50 Cent and Kanye West.
