Clinton's Presidency oversaw a massive economic boom.
But it's arguable his administration took a lax attitude toward terrorism and allowed the mechanism that created Al Qaeda and 9/11 to happen.
He also had a hand in the ousting of Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in the mid 1990s (I think...I forget the details).
He also failed to tackle Universal Healthcare.
And he signed a bill that helped exacerbate the problem of incarceration for non-violent drug offenses (which he has expressed regret over).
There is A LOT to criticize Bill Clinton for. And Monica Lewinsky has nothing to do with it.
With regard to Obama -- He's accelerated (or at the very least, tolerated) a lot of the George W Bush spying/torture policies.
He's deported more people than (I think) any President ever.
Many feel he didn't go far enough in his push for Universal Healthcare.
He intervened in Libya without congressional approval (I think, feel free to correct me here).
I mean, here's the thing. I think there's more to criticize Clinton about because we have the benefit of 15 years to look back on the legacy that unfolded.
Obama is still in the midst of his Presidency and there's a lot more we'll find out in the next 10 years.
But I think just based off the fact that no President in history has ever received the kind of unwillingness to work together that he's gotten from Conservatives makes it a virtual miracle that Obama has gotten ANYTHING done at all. Republicans have tried 50 times (FIFTY!!) to repeal PPACA. That's insane.
They won't meet with him to discuss any kind of gun control legislation (though to be fair, no other President has really been able to either).
I think over time, history will judge Obama a lot more kindly.
He did get Osama bin Laden.
His healthcare reform is a landmark achievement.
He inherited an economy in shambles and we're now at 5.1% unemployment.
He'll be associated with the legalization of same-sex marriage.
The 3 areas that seem like glaring holes in Obama's presidency appear to be that:
1. He never tackled immigration and he promised to.
2. He never tackled environmental issues in a meaningful way.
3. He seemingly did not do enough regarding race relations...or much to improve/address the conditions of black Americans. That might be a perception thing. (IN before Napoleon has a conniption fit about how "the president can't control that"). But it doesn't look good that Jews and Native Americans received some form of reparations while black people continued to die at the hands of police and their reparations for slavery never even make it to the discussion table.
