Punk's first run with the World Heavyweight Championship in 2008. He had an underwhelming feud with JBL and didn't even get to defend the belt in the Scramble Match 'cause Legacy took him out beforehand. Seems like most guy's first title run (Rey, Ziggler, Swagger, Punk, etc) is usually the shyts 'cause they're booked so weak. Making them look weak to "test the guy" always works out well...

Swagger.

Dude had potential but the cash-in is often a detriment to someone's career and so is feuding with the Big Show.

If we are talking just WWE, Mysterio. I DQ Ziggler just because of the concussion took it away from him, only to be smacked in the head by Del Rio at the next PPV. :stopitslime:

Now if all of wrestling, Chris Sabin. :stopitslime:

Yea Rey's treatment as "champ" was flat out sad.

he is 5'3...theres only so much you can do with such a short, and small in stature man being booked as a heavyweight champ. The fact they were able to pull it off at all is a serious achievement. He was definitely given the belt as a response to Eddy's death, since Smackdown was so popular with hispanics at the time.

RVD shouldnt be on the list, because he sabotaged himself by getting arrested. Benoit, was given the belt as sort of a lifetime achievement award for being such a great wrestler. He was severely limited on the mic, so they had to protect him from being exposed. Orton at least established himself as a star, but his initial title run was a disappointment.

Its between swagger and the miz (why isnt he on the list?). Both had expectations of being stars, and both failed miserably. Guess I'd go with the miz. He sucks in every way...at least swagger was a good wrestling champ.

you're stating the extremely obvious as far as "why" Rey got the belt.

It wouldn't have difficult at all to keep Rey away from the monsters they had squashing him weekly during his title stint. ., . Mark Henry nor the Great Khali etc gained anything from pinning Rey, all it did was make him look like a chump. .. there were plenty of mid sized HW's they could have had him feud with but Vince loves his David v Goliath clashes so it is what it is.

I only said that, because it goes hand in hand with the argument. They probably wouldnt have made Rey champ, if it wasnt for the tragedy of Eddy's death. Saying he was squashed every week is a pretty gross exaggeration, but it even stretches believability to have Rey beating up mid heavyweights given the dramatic difference in size. He has the height of a cruiserweight, so its only natural to book him as an underdog that succeeds despite all odds. Not everyone can be booked like Goldberg.
