Looking for jobs in both areas. philly pros- family is there. cost of living cheaper. cons- public school system sucks if you live in the city. city wage tax if you live in the city. suburbs are very segregated- majority of blacks are in the city. whites are in the burbs.so its live in the city and be in a horrible school district unless you paying for private school or find a great charter. or live in the burbs and rarely see any blacks. there are some blacks in the suburbs but its not like dc.

dc- pros- black excellence. blacks in suburbs and city. we wont be the only blacks in the neighborhood. cons- $$$$ and traffic

Phila
I just moved with my girl and her two kids to conshohocken just last month (suburb 9 miles from Philly.) I went to college here and lived for a little bit after, so i had familiarity. School district is really good out in the suburbs if you are in Montgomery county, and most schools in delaware county. We have septa walkable to go into the city, there is some nightlife around here in conshohocken/plymouth meeting, and its pretty diverse (in colonial school district). If you want more diversity, or be around more black people, upper darby school district would be a pretty good choice. And like you already pointed out, its much cheaper then DC. She didnt necessarily love Philly coming into it, but she really likes where we live, as there is not much crime.

Dc has the better suburbs cause its MD or VA. PA suburbs are nice but the traffic sucks and if you go too far out you are in the middle of REDNECKS and poor ass white people.
Same applies to here(DC burbs)

Dc traffic is way worse than philly traffic.

if you have kids and want to live in the DC burbs then avoid anything inside of the beltway which is where all of the DC transplants are being pushed at.

Is redneck country Maryland even considered dc suburbs anymore?

Yeah, technically, but it's the VA ones tho. With MD, once you leave PG and Mo, it's not longer considered a DC burb anymore.

Except for Waldorf(kinda)

Phi Chi Connection
As someone who has had connections to both cities all my life.

DC = better suburbs
Philly = Cost of living much better

I live in Philly, best place to move to is Montgomery county...good schools, diversity, proximity to the city.

Took me a minute to realize you all were talking about Montgomery county in PA and not the one in Maryland that just happens to border DC.

Philly (BYRD GANG)
Philly has some of he best suburbs in the nation just check the statistics. The schools, shopping easy transportation to the city, things to do and easy access to NY and DC is a plus. I currently live in delware county west to Philly and I love it.

I suggest philly area no bias.
