I remember long ago me and an old head were talking about rap. I was getting his perspective on what he thought about new shyt; he was in his late teens when Rakim, the Juice Crew, etc were runnin shyt. At one point he got to kicking knowledge about how a lot of rock stars and R&B artists grew up listening nonstop to shyt their parents were listening to. IE a lot of 90s bands were lil kids listening to The Beatles, The Police, and other shyt their parents would play around the house. Long story short he felt like nikkas today don't be playing boom bap in the house when they get kids; he even admitted today he just plays jazz or old R&B, and his kids don't even know he likes hip hop.

Listening to Joey talk about music made me realize this is a guy who's parents actually DID play that shyt. He grew up listening to Rakim, Nas, DITC, etc like white kids grow up listening to The Rolling Stones, nahmean. And I remember hearing ASAP say his mom always played Rakim too, and of course Kendrick grew up listening to his uncles play west coast shyt. That's interesting from a generational perspective brehs. Lots of late 90s/early 2000s cats heard hip hop through their friends or older brothers; in a lot of cases their parents frowned upon them listening to rap, and becoming rappers. Now we're seeing nikkas come up in hip hop families listening to that dope shyt, with supportive parents.

Brehs lets do our seeds right. Imma be playing Nas, Pac, Biggie, etc for my youngins at an early age. That's my hip hop :to:

meh, i hear you, but this is not the 1st set of rappers that grew up on their parents' hip-hop at all b.

What in the fukk. You tone deaf ass nikkas kill me :bryan:

His flow is nice. The voice is maybe something thats objective, but i fukk with the gritty throwback delivery. Kid is nice and mad mature for his age. 1999 was one of the best releases last year.
