with cnn coming out saying nas is the greatest lyricist ever i wanted to debate this

im talking about who got the best metaphors wordplay punchlines complex rhyme patterns etc

to me it is either pac kool g rap or rakim

There are several contenders, I don't think there's any one GOAT lyricist:

Rakim for his influence on the MC's pen game in general
Kool G Rap for making a particular aspect of rhyming a style (Multi-syllabic raps).
Nas in terms of his poetic approach to rapping (great use of metaphors, imagery and so on)

Honorable mentions:

Canibus, Em, AZ, Big Pun, for their lyrical dexterity and I guess Lord Finesse and to a lesser extent Big L for pioneering the punchline rapping style.

Guys like Prodigy, Pac and Big were more ill in terms of delivery (Big was had an iller flow though)

pac and biggie were ill lyrically but people like prodigy and canibus were more ill as far as delivery imo but not lyrical.
