It's being used with more and more frequency. I always feel weird when I hear it because it seems fetishistic in a way. Was it one particular academic or journalist or something? Any help appreciated.

It has a long history in critical race theory. It has to do with the way this society reads the physical aspects on Blackness - the meaning ascribed to it, the reactions to it, etc.
and the objectification of black people (which is most likely what is rightfully bothering OP)

It was Donald Sterling..

When that whole racist tapes things happened last year people started coming out of the wood works telling old stories about how he treated/talking to black people that worked for him

And one of the excepts told how he used to walk into the players locker room with his date for the night (while they were showering/changing) and say " Look at all those beautiful black bodies"

The players didn't like it cause, well frankly its just creep, but they didn't really have the power to say anything either

anyone who's read feminist theory (which is probably only me on here :yeshrug: ) can see the influence it had on him

there are clear echoes of marilyn frye in his work
