Unique symptoms emerge during recent monkeypox outbreak

The monkeypox illness now spreading around the globe is showing some symptoms that are very different from those seen in previous outbreaks, a new study shows.

These unique symptoms include rectal pain, penile swelling, solitary lesions and swollen tonsils, researchers reported in Thursday's issue of the BMJ.

"Understanding these findings will have major implications for contact tracing, public health advice, and ongoing infection control and isolation measures," the researchers explained in a journal news release.

For the study, researchers evaluated 197 confirmed monkeypox cases at an infectious disease center in London between May and July 2022.

All patients presented with monkeypox lesions, most commonly on their genitals or near their anus. All cases were men, and all but one were men who have sex with other men.

A total of 71 patients reported rectal pain, 33 had a sore throat, and 31 had a swollen penis, while 27 had oral lesions, 22 had a solitary lesion and nine had swollen tonsils

Overall, 10% of the study's patients were admitted to the hospital for management of symptoms, most commonly rectal pain and swelling of the penis, the researchers said

More than one-third (36%) of participants also had HIV, while 32% of those screened for sexually transmitted diseases had one, the investigators found.

The right way, the wrong way and the Max Power way
Women generally having a lower libido than men is the primary reason this shyt isn't out of control. It's why we're "picky". Two dudes, double the recklessness.

It's nothing to do with that, it's the way in which these fakkits copulate. It's fundamentally wrong, nature has now tried twice to tell them to stop their devilry. Thrice if you include Sodom and Gomorrah.

Heaven on Earth
Folks on social media calling others homophobic for bringing up medical facts.

If a 300 lb man goes for a physical and the doctor tells him to change his lifestyle or he’s gonna be at higher risk for diabetes and heart disease is the doctor “fatphobic”?

Society’s obsession with protecting “feelings” will eventually be our down fall.

where is that breh who was bringing up Africa saying it's not a gay disease

:unimpressed:

Similar to HIV, it’s not a “gay disease”. You will see if that if it’s not checked soon, it will affect straight people too.

In Africa, the majority of the sufferers aren’t gay. In fact, in Africa, a lot of Monkeypox victims are children.

it isn't a new term. a lot of non-heterosexual men are so deep in denial & uncomfortable labeling themselves in a way that reflects reality that they don't respond or pay attention to health messages directed at gay or bisexual men. the MSM term just tries to get around that

WHO chief: “Although I am declaring a public health emergency of international concern for the moment, this is an outbreak that is concentrated among men who have sex with men, especially those with multiple sexual partners,” Tedros said. “That means that this is an outbreak that can be stopped with the right strategies in the right groups.”

Andy Seale, a WHO adviser on HIV, hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections, said experts have determined the current monkeypox outbreak is "clearly transmitted during sex," but he said they have not yet concluded whether it's a sexually transmitted infection.

Dr. Hugh Adler, who treats monkeypox patients in the U.K., said monkeypox was being transmitted during sex and that sexual networks and anonymous sex with untraceable partners were facilitating its spread.

"It's just as likely that monkeypox was always capable of transmitting and presenting like this, but it hadn't been formally reported or so widespread before," he said.
