Bloodborne combat is good, but I don't get how y'all pretending like its some all time great action game combat. In reality the controls are kinda clunky, the A.I. is dumb, the camera is kinda wonky, and the combat is very repetitive.

You fight every enemy the same. Dodge, wait for an opening, swing, rest, repeat. Literally every fight goes this way. It is fun and intense and I absolutely love bloodborne and the souls series as a whole, but its always been in despite of those problems.

And the witcher combat has plenty of problems of its own, some the same as bloodborne, others worse. But as I've played for a while and leveled up my character things have started to open up and the fights are getting more hectic and using the powers and equipment correctly is very engaging. I've also learned to quit fighting with the camera. I pretty much leave it alone during a fight and just attack the enemies in whatever direction they are in, instead of always trying to swing the camera behind me.

I really like both games, but the witcher just has so much more going for itself:manny:

Bloodborne, I havent played witcher 3 and from what I seen the combat looks good but fukk all those cutscenes, overwhelming HUD and open world side missions. Ill cop eventually but im tired of the open world formula if it aint by rockstar.

If TLOU doesn't count (best single player story AND still the best multi player out there), Bloodborne so far

Haven't played any Wii U games though

I swear you cats need to learn what the hell a "fetch quest" is. :snoop:

Fred.

Acquire ingredients to make a witcher potion and bring it to a girl who is dying...is that not a fetch quest breh? Enlighten me

Go searching a cave for a lamp that some elf druid owed a witch...am I off base thinking this is basic fetch nonsense?

Find a soldier's brother?

You cats are too damned sensitive about your favorite games. It's weird.

What make them more than fetch quests are the decisions you have to make and the further implications they have on the story and the world.

For example you first had to decide if giving the girl the potion is a good idea. If you give it to her then come back to the hut later, you'll find out that she was taken away by some soldiers. And you will probably meet up with her again sometime later.

I chose to give her the potion, but I would guess if you didn't give it to her she would have died right there, or maybe there's some other outcome.

And that's what makes these more than "basic fetch nonsense"

See, I skipped completing that mission because it seemed like such a transparent fetch quest that I just moved on to more interesting missions. Now that I hear it actually does more, I'll go finish that ish. But the format doesn't change, it's still a fetch quest, glorified or not. Dude's can get upset at that, but if I'm going from point a to point b to pick something up (or gather information) and then return to point a....it's a fetch quest. Much respect though, you just put me on to deeper repercussions in that one and I'll hope to find more. That's why I mentioned Dragon Age, a lot of missions had a similar format but they carried implications that you could feel...your party mates reacted to your decisions or you gained additional conversation trees. It took a few hours for me to really recognize the value of the quests (and that's why I said it was too early for me to judge the witcher).

On a side note, I see your mentioning the combat in Bloodborne as repetitive and flawed but kinda disagree there. The ability to change weapons and use the gun to set up counters gives you options beyond the dodge, attack, dodge attack although I do revert to that strategy whenever I have substantial blood souls. I need to get a lot better at combat in the Witcher to even draw a fair comparison (really struggling with timing blocks for counters, I keep getting knocked off balance instead) but I think you're selling Bloodborne's combat a bit short. By the time you get to the blood moon, the barrages of enemies make it a lot tougher to just dodge, swing, rest and repeat unless you boost your stats quite a bit imo. But to each his own. I like Bloodborne a lot and I see potential in the Witcher but I don't get to spend as much time getting deep into these joints so I won't be able to fully speak on the Witcher until I'm further along and seeing the implications of my past decisions and figuring out the combat (plus keying my equipment and upgrades to my combat style) at the very least.

For me I already had the potion so I really didn't have to fetch anything. And the overwhelming majority of missions in the witcher do not entail going to find something and bringing it back. When they do, they always have further implications other than what's on the surface.

I wouldn't call those the same old fetch quests ala skyrim or DA:I or plenty of other RPGs.

I never found the risk of getting hit trying to parry worth the reward of the damage boost you'd get, other than a couple bosses which you almost had to use it to beat them.

Dude fetch quest are more like "Kill 25 boars" for like no reason. The witcher to me is way more engaging in that there is always a story and a decision to be made. Like I was doing this quest, some hunter's wife died,:mjcry: and I had to go into the forest to investigate shyt :sadcam: I'm looking around seeing paw prints and dead animals and shyt, my nikka gerald is like there was a beast here on his batman shyt:wow:. Out of nowhere the sister of the dead hunters wife comes out on some "Just tell him she got attacked by wolf's:merchant: and I'll give you some money if you look to the side I was like fine :ehh: took the money and kept looking for clues and shyt:smugfavre: come to find the hunter is actually a werewolf :ohhh: and killed his wife. The sister led the hunter to kill his wife:troll:. Hunter found out about this and asked me if he could kill her I was like fine :francis: then I put him out of his misery. shyt was piff. No other game immerses you in quest like that.

You're right that the quests aren't on the basic "kill a bunch of (insert generic monster here)" but I just see the same format for most of the early missions and side quest options (like collecting the cards or armor blueprints and supplies) of "go do this simple ish with generic opposition and come back." It's standard for pretty much every action RPG though, you have to go through the smaller ish to get to the big missions. That werewolf mission is BY FAR my favorite mission that I've had at this point. It's missions like those that key me to the fact that I'll probably enjoy this the further I go (same as Dragon Age really...love that game).
