apollo is dope and i'm slowly becoming a fan over the years but dudes drums just don't do anything for me.

samples might be crazy but i can't get into it if the drums aren't deadly every time.

yea, hes just too limited for me. he reminds me of 9th Wonder, without the special sauce that makes 9th's shyt work. 2 more bangers for the road

he has been pretty active, put out a tape of original material (Thought for Food 3) and did the Willie the Kid album Living Daylights

produced Canibus' next album which drops in May

I think Apollo's stuff is really well mixed compared to 9th Wonder.
I love 9th's music but his samples sound so flat.

Slight edge to Apollo Brown for me. This might change depending how the wind blows though, both are dope.

Though I've gotta say it, that fake vinyl crackle Apollo sometimes adds to records is corny as hell. If it crackles naturally, let it happen, if not...stop forcing it

That was the one drawback I had on the Blasphemy album w/ Ras...every track has the same fake vinyl sound laid over it. I can understand the attempt to add something aesthetically but it really gets annoying after a while, especially when it's the same vinyl pops sampled over every single song. I wouldn't do it, but, if you want to do that for a whole album, go the whole nine & record a whole record length of vinyl sound to layer over the top instead of the same loop on the whole record. Or press a test copy & digitally record the vinyl if you're seeking that vinyl sound. The way he's doing it though ain't really working.

That said, small complaint on what ended up being one of Ras Kass' best projects.

also, if anyone wanted to hear the joint Apollo produced for Bronze back when:

Yeah, i agree. His vinyl sounds should be lowered in volume i think.
I also add a soft vinyl in my beats with heavy cut EQ.

I think Rass Kass used to be way doper on his early stuff like Soul On Ice.
He now forces his voice to sound gritty too much.
