Long response :-\

Not to sound holier than thou, because I've downloaded my share of stuff, but it's still stealing. I know a lot of artists personally, and I have to deal with a lot of them also, so I know I'm in the minority, but I actually feel worse sometimes when I download stuff sometimes.

More often than not, when I buy something, I usually sampled it ahead of time anyway, so I'm more happy to use the hell out of it. I gave SO much run to Kendrick's "good kid m.A.A.d city," Ab-Soul's "Control System," Danny!'s "Payback," Danny Brown and Black Milk's "Black and Brown," etc. :lawd:

Plus, you're more likely to have memorable experiences when you buy an album, IMO. I remember skipping school after lunch to listen to my freshly copped "Get Rich Or Die Tryin," I remember buying Wu-Tang Clan's "The W" when I was overseas, I even remember ordering Royce's "Death Is Certain" and "College Dropout" the same day online, and waiting around in the my dorm for them to arrive and wondering which one I was going to listen to first. :ohlawd: When I saw the great numbers that GKMC did, I really felt like I was a part of something.

Not saying that having dope memories with downloading albums is impossible, but they're more monolithic to me. It's just "Google, click, download." :manny:

Plus, I figure if an artist can genuinely enrich my life with a work of art that I'm consuming reguarly, the least I could do is give $10 once in a while. Some of these cats really put their all into these records. And it isn't just about how much money they get from each album sold - when you buy an album, you're showing that artist's record label that they're worth keeping on board, which helps you continue to get the music you rock with.

I've downloaded a lot of stuff, but when I do buy, that's what I have in mind.
the memory shyt is true but that also goes hand in hand with the time & era you bought those albums. you were in your teens when you skipped school to cop GRODT, just like i was when i wagged so i could get All Eyez On Me. the time of your life has a lot more to do with the memories associated with the music than the actual purchase of the cd.

i'm sure these kids these days don't really get the same feeling from downloading an album off itunes but they still bump the music with their boys & have the time of their life when their listening to whatever they downloaded that day.

:aicmon: At some of you backwardass muthafukas. By not buying albums you are contributing to the degradation of hip hop.

Someone takes time, money, and effort to make a product of value. You like that product.

Then the person who created the product should be compensated in someway for their effort.:

mindblown: At how people don't understand this simple concept. Then we wonder why hip hop is fuked up, or why you favorite artist just made a damn pop record.

I mean sh!t most artist give away mixtapes and random tracks throughout the year anyway.

I understand if your young, a student, or money just tight. I mean your going to get it how you live but, to knock others for doing the right thing is :snoop:

I download a lot, but I also buy the shyt I like. I buy every Kanye album, Curren$y, bought GKMC after playing it for a month, etc.

Music is mad disposable nowadays ... but I find the the stuff that I buy, I tend to play longer.

I'll still support a select few artists and I usually download them off iTunes. I don't have much of a need for the tangible album anymore.

Older music and more soul/jazz sampled hip-hop is still my go to on vinyl when I'm at the house.

I thought about that for a second, but that's not entirely the case. Like I said, I remember the other stuff too. I remember seeing Black Milk do some INCREDIBLE stuff with his band, and buying his CD that night. I remember waiting until GKMC came out to listen to it, then buying it and bumping it in my boy's basement with headphones on like :whew: while he had work to do.
