I would have to go with whoever you think was in charge on both sides of the American Revolutionary War...also known as "The Beginning of the Genocide of the Native Americans"...whichever you prefer

:francis: Its not that simple to point at a beginning..the Spanish and the British engaged in genocide as well long before there was a colonial American Govt

Creh, read this book. Honestly I'm not finna go back and forth on this if you want to brush that under the rug as gaining "a lucrative return."
Interestingly, I have read that book. It argues that European society as a whole established the preconditions for genocidal behavior, and Columbus's discovery made it possible for that behavior to be unleashed.

It doesn't change the fact that mass colonizing/exterminating an indigenous people wasn't Columbus's intent. Its certainly a result of his actions, but not his specific intent. He died insisting he was in India.

I'm not brushing anything under the rug. In fact, I would argue that pinning the genocide solely on Columbus (which you'd have to do to place him in contention for this thread) lets European society as a whole off the hook.

By comparison, the Nazi Holocaust can be separated from German society because of the prominent role of Hitler/the Nazi party.

This is true...however I feel that this war is the "official" jumping off point of the genocide of the native americans...because the war was primarily about who is going to own this land and kill the native population in the process...in the historical context...of course :jbhmm:
