Julius Caesar was more dynamic, but Augustus is probably the best western leader ever

How was Caesar a trash politician when he was running circles around the greatest politicians of his day as just a young not even rich patrician.

If you look at both their careers Caesar is the much great leader of men, much more cunning and charismatic. Dude didnt pay his soldiers for decades and was against the wall dozens of times but they stayed loyal off his swag alone. I like Augustus and snuffing out the republic like he did is amazing, but Caesar ppretty much built his entire shyt up by himself.

Idk man everytime I go through the history of Rome Caesar comes off as the GOAT and Augustus is almost a right place right time type of situation.

Caesar came from an ancient patrician family but they'd been on hard times for generations. Caesar grew up in the hood pretty much. Most of Caesars political connections as a young man were with Marius and his camp, which did him no favors when Sulla took over.
