Inspectah Deck.

Some will try to revise history, because Ghost/Rae/GZA/Method Man had sustained success and blew up, but Inspectah Deck had four of the top 10-12 verses on the album (Brick Da Ruckus, C.R.E.A.M which one of the GOAT hip hop verses, 7th Chamber, and Protect Ya Neck which is my favorite verse on the album.)

Voted for Inspectah Deck.

Dude was spazzing out lyrically on this album and had many of his best verses included on here (C.R.E.A.M., Protect Ya Neck).

Ghost and Rae too:blessed:

This and This, I really thought dude had next in 93.

Method Man (he rode on the beats sidesaddle)

Close second:

GZA (miss 2 jewels deciphering what he meant on the first dart)

Who had a solo song named after him on the album and got a record deal first. Meth was responsible for Wu becoming popular amongst ladies and young heads at the time. Trust me, at 12 M-e-t-h-o-D man was piff.

RZA. Wouldn't be NO 36 Chambers without him

Tbh This is actually the correct answer even though I voted for mr meth.

People forget that method man was supposed to be the flag bearer for the group

One of the biggest singles was M-E-T-H-O-D Man. He had his own song. He was clearly the standout superstar. Ghostface was interesting but we didn't know what he looked like yet.

So either Method Man or RZA production/beats. Everyone came through with verses. As if Wu Tang wasn't edgy enough, ODB co-MVP off the strength of the extra insanity he brought. I think you can't answer this today. At the time when it took over, it really change NY IMO. It got real scary that winter. Everyone started wearing ski masks because of them and I kept thinking I was about to get robbed. It was no joke back then.

Wu took the crown from Onyx. Before them everyone was wearing hoodies with that mad face.

Young'uns just can't judge it. The numbers don't tell it and you weren't there to see this shift. Naughty by Nature and Onyx were pretty much on top from what I remember and they were grimey. Naughty had the pop edge with their singles but when Wu took over, it got straight up scary. And the Wu were all out of nowhere (Shaolin). Mad weird and dope nicknames. It was demonic shyt in real life. There was nothing like them.
