That's where we disagree, the fact is Dave East got none of those going for him and its not even close. He can flow and he got a good voice... The rest of what he does is extremely average to the point of being derivative.

He's overrated because there's nothing that makes him stand out - and especially when talking about his music - other than the Nas cosign. At this point he simply isn't a standout talent and especially when put in context of the East Coast rappers who occupy similar territory. Is he seeing Skyzoo with the lyrics? Has he ever put out a project as complete as any of Meyhem Lauren's? Is his presence as distinctive/recognizable as Rocky's when he's on a song? Does he have the storytelling ability of someone like Roc Marciano? Even among his peer group he's extremely fukkin average. He doesn't have to have everything figured out but he needs to be able to do something that makes him stand out... As it is literally nothing does other than marketing.
sounds like you just don't like east, so why post all of this as a fact when it's clearly your opinion?

I get it. U don't like the nikka. Simple as that. It may not even be u. But in general. That's how it works on this site. Even the nikkas u named get shyt on by people on here. Just cause they from NY. When it comes to NY artists. There's no objectivity on this site. They can't just be alright. If nikkas don't have EVERYTHING. they garbage. Just had to argue with a few people on here about Don Q the other day for no reason. Cause people so thirsty to criticize any NY artist that gets bigged up. And the nikka Dave East ain't overrated cause ain't Noone rating him. If u think he's overrated cause he has buzz than imma disagree with u. There's plenty people who fukk with him and his music and Noone is calling him the second coming of anything. But he damn sure deserves his shine cause he been grindin and there's FAR wacker rappers in the game that got a bigger buzz than him. Look at that whole fukkin XXL Freshman class. Dave East and Lil Herb stuck out like sore thumbs cause everyone else on that shyt was garbage on the mic. Dave would've fit in on a list with Don Q. Young MA. A Boogie. Etc etc.

All I'm saying is name something that Dave East is great at. Does he make great singles? Great mixtapes/albums? Is he a great storyteller? Is he very original? Is he a great punchline rapper? Does he make great concept songs?

If not, then what is he great at? What makes him stand out?

I think he has pretty dope projects. He has a great delivery and flow. He is actually not bad at punchlines at all. He has a few songs that I feel could've got traction. I mean he's pretty decent. He's not groundbreaking or anything. But not everyone has to be.

I can dig that, I even agree that he got a great voice & flow. My issue is he isn't saying anything of substance in any respect... With his content being as derivative as it is his the details are important. Roc Marciano is a one-trick pony as far as delivery but that works for him because he creates his character in the lyrics. It's the lines like this:

"...Line the whips up, talking to Siri in the 8 series
With Katie and her fake titties, sipping Remy
On the rocks, Montclair when the air's chilly
For playing Willie got jammed out in Philly
Split him open like a Philly, feel the fury
They find you in the trunk of Missouri, all smelly
Solicitor of flesh, ridiculous sex
A heavy pistol in the Michelin nest
Spit the best, be on Twitter less
Triple X suflex off the roof, mama I'm a juice head
The coupe's red, the crew still moves from my toolshed
This is truth not bootleg

The deuce-deuce is in the boot by the leg
Fly shoe head spread, guns wonderbread
it's under the bed, plus a couple in the duffle-bag
Take a better look, I'm peddling cook
Fiends shoot heroin in the foot
Still play it by the book, the grey tops bottled up
The hood swallow us up, what the fukk?"

That paint the picture. The content in that verse is pretty much the same as Dave East's verse on this thread, it's the details that differentiate them. East would never say something like "a heavy pistol in the Michelin nest", he would say some shyt like "keep a burner in the car tire" which is the same idea but not as clever. Roc does a better job of bringing you into his world, Dave East got a better delivery but his lyrics are dry.

son u won't get no argument from me about Roc Marc. he's on an entire different level as an emcee and I don't even think there's anything wrong with his delivery. it fits his style.

I like East cause I can relate to the lyrics. He's got hunger, bars and can make songs:manny:

Only thing I don't like is how some of his shyt don't make sense. Hate Me Now was one of my favourite projects that's dropped last year

Name an aspect of Dave East's craft where he's head and shoulders better than most of his peers in NY.
I'm not going to sit and go back and forth with you when you obviously don't like him and in here writing paragraphs on why he is so overrated, he is doing something right if a nikka from the west coast thinks Dave east is overrated.

you went from comparing him to coli rappers, to being upset that he has more buzz then mozzy, to comparing him to nikkas who had careers and critical albums before he started rapping, you got it breh.

:stopitslime: The thread title talking about he a monster, if you ain't tryna back that up then there's nothing to go back and forth about.

Mozzy got a bigger buzz in the streets than Dave East period and he did it without an industry cosign starting in a much tinier market. Sacramento literally 1/12 the size of NYC, explain why Dave East don't got half the views if he really got a bigger buzz tho.
