So to make sure I'm right, AA is basically a short hand way of defining a black person's ethnicity+nationality since we don't know where our specific family is from, unless you know where your parents are born then you are that ethnicity + nationality?

She is also Black so she is a Black American. Some Black people ALSO (key word) refer to themselves as African American. Black and African American are terms under race/ethnicity. Race is very broad, which is why there tends to be a "Other" option when defining your race on documents.
Since African American is a race that refers to a black person, Charlie is therefore not African American.

She identifies as AMERICAN, and on an ethnic basis, it holds merit. OF COURSE she has African DNA and roots, but that is a different category, that isn't how your ethnicity is determined.

I pointed it out earlier, if I were to call myself an African American American I would be correct in how I combined my ethnicity and nationality because African American is an ethnicity and American is the official nationality term for America. Some people didn't like to be called Black so they called themselves African American, but that didn't automatically transfer that word into it's own national title. Every country has one official term. It's not that hard to grasp.

BLACK is a race
AFRICAN-AMERICAN is an ethnicity.
The problem is too many people use the terms as interchangeable when they are close but not the case. You can be black, living in ANY country and still be part of the black race. If you are black and you never lived in America, you are NOT African-American. In the US, they tend to be used synonymously, but in the world, not so much. Haitians are still black, but not necessarily African American.
Why is this hard for you to grasp?
