They should instead clarify her statements and maybe indicate that “race” is perceived differently outside of America and that from a Eurocentric point of view, it was about what race. But from an American point of view, it was not, as race is primarily distinguished simply by the color of your skin.

What matters really depends on what they’re discussing and the context of the comment. If this is simply an ideological discussion about history, I’d agree with you. If this is based on a comparison to something “American-based” that is based on what Americans perceive as race, then what she is saying has merit. The context of her comments mean everything.

Right - even if, objectively speaking, it wasn't about race, race is a social construct. If other white folks start considering Jews "others" and try to kill them based on that, it is about race.

I find it odd that Religion has been able to classify it self as every identifiable group. This is the only religion that is interchangeable with race somehow.
