I say this because in real life black people in majority will say Pac is the greatest from all generations

Which assumes that Pac is claimed to be GOAT by alot of people who were not old enough to listen to him during his career

WHich also assumes that after his death the campaign from many radio stations and hip hop publications and media outlets basically telling people that Pac is GOAT afffected the view of the major public.....and i say all this to say most people who claim Pac is GOAT are inauthentic because most times those claiming that will have 10+ artists they play more on the playlist than their said GOAT which assumes they have a position based on image

Pac is the popular default choice for GOAT for the major public...he's like the easy answer for those who dont attentively follow hip hop

A large percentage of my people are Hip Hop heads and Pac is the widely picked GOAT, my closest friend Pac's his number 1 artist, another very close person Pac is her number 2 artist, another in their top 5, and many have him as their GOAT. They aren't lying, this is how they FEEL. You just can't accept it. They have all/most of Pac's work. And know his music deeply. You just don't understand, but I'll let people here tell it... what Pac's music means to them.....

I never said Papoose has a better catalogue than Kanye, to be honest think Kanye currently does have the better catalogue but Papoose is a better MC/rapper technically. His first official album was dope too so he could catch Kanye up, we'll see I guess.

There are 2 ways to approach this thread. I'm going to be very careful to do my best to state my point. I think a lot less heat would be in this thread if people could look at things this way. It also depends on whether you want to count Pac's posthumous albums or not (the ones that dropped after he died.)A lot of people are on some Pac > Kanye or Kanye > Pac which isn't the question being asked.

I think Pac is a better rapper than Kanye. I think Kanye is overrated as a rapper, I met him before he blew up, heard him rap in the studio, running out of air, having to constantly punch in. Etc. That said, he's improved a lot. Who knows what he's written and what he hasn't.

To me that's not the question being asked. I'm also a self admitted production nerd / beat head, whatever.

From a production/musical POV, Kanye has a better discography. His first 2 albums helped shape the landscape of the 00's from a production standpoint, as well as in theme. He wasn't the first, nor the best to do the "blue collar/everyday life" rap. Little Brother for example, did it before, and did it better. Slum Village was doing it, Kweli, Mos, lots of cats. But Kanye's was the one that blew up and made it fashionable.

After Late Registration things get shakey to me. 808s I thought was a pretty clear jack move of Phonte's Foreign Exchange project, and I hated it. I'll never like that album. I did fukk with Graduation, and to me it's the last really good Kanye album. MBDTF I think is overrated, and critics will always say I just "don't get it" or that "it's over my head" but whatever. it would be dope if you cut like half the songs and threw in some of the Good Friday releases that got axed.

Yeezus is garbage, and you can't count Watch the Throne.

As far as Pac, he's a better rapper. He was a powerful voice for the nation, and for the world honestly. he helped make hip-hop a global art form. His MUSIC....is overrated slightly I think. I think Me Against The World and Makaveli are his best albums. AEOM is great, but there's some filler on there. If Pac's production was better, I think I'd have no problem saying that he has a better discography.

Part of this whole debate is unfair too, because Kanye has 4 advantages.

1. Most importantly, Pac didn't make beats. That's not Pac's fault, but it's like, if you compare College Dropout to Makaveli...even if you like Makaveli more. You can't argue that Kanye did not do more actual work to make College Dropout. That gut feeling that he did everything on College Dropout, and not just the rapping, is going to make you feel a certain way when comparing the albums.

2. Pac has a lot of sub-par music that got released after he died (that he had no say in obviously), and if that music is being debated and thrown into the mix, then Pac is at a disadvantage. Like that awful project where Eminem did all the beats? That shyt was trash. So if you're comparing that to Late Registration, then OF COURSE Pac is going to lose that one.

3. It's 2014, and a lot of Pac fans are older and don't post on this forum. Kanye fans are younger, and everyone thinks the msuci they grew up on is the best. His fan base is more likely to post here, possibly skewing the results.

4. No internet when Pac was alive. SO MUCH of Pac's music isn't seen or felt by today's generation because it's not captured in time with Youtube videos, documentaries, internet blog articles, and stuff like that. Artists like Pac made it possible for Kanye to have a voice, and Pac's influence was truly special. When he died people were legit upset and crying and shyt like that in school. I can't imagine that happening today for Kanye. Like I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE I WAS when I found out Pac died. Same with Biggie. A lot of that is lost on today's generation. I have 1 grandparent that I don't remember the exact details of where I was when I found out they died. It's certainly not as vivid as when Pac died. AND I think Pac is overrated as a rapper from a lyrical standpoint. And I still knew/felt his influence like that.
