Who’s method of dealing with ex-crew members is the best in your eyes 50 Cent Diddy or Jay…this YouTube short made me think of this question 🧐

Oh word. A label is a business your label head is your boss. How many jobs do you know where people demand a former boss be responsible for their lives 20-30 years down the line.

"They are petty and self centered"

Their business men. Don't bring your emotions to work you prolly won't get hurt.

Like clockwork someone regurgitating words not even their own.

Have some original commentary. Don't parrot what you have heard.

Given what we now know about P why isn't he called a Demon? Or Birdman? Stop sounding like an echo chamber :laff:

I met puff whn he was rockin a dusty Kangol. The way he treated the kids during the shoot was fukked up.

Everyone else was cool. That nikka thought he was God. Bird chest ass nikka

And as far as industry shyt goes, most them nikkas are straight dikk suckers in real life. Industry nikkas are coat tail riding homosexuals.

They’re all very petty, self-centered and emotional in their own way, Jay-Z just hides it better. 50 is the only one who will be up front about how he feels about people who used to be around him, so at least they know where they stand.

Diddy will pretend like he loves everybody while lying about taking their money, making them fight tooth and nail in court to get what’s owed to them

Jay will just blackball you behind the scenes, which is what I’d probably do if I cared that much
/thread

wouldnt call them "petty & self centered" though.
but a good rundown on how they handle things.

50 at least seems like he'll keep it honest with you

This is true. There is a lot of sentimentality mixed in business in the music industry.

i will never ever understand this part

and some believe that is a thing that should happen

This is a horrible comparison

At a regular job you get paid for your time once you're gone it's over

Music is different

You should be able to eat forever off a hit single from your catalog

50 will continuously antagonize you for the world to see and throw any help he did give in your face. Whatever you feel about Buck and his preferences that shyt is nasty.
Diddy you just gotta get it in the paper work.
And most artists starting out don't have that so they end up screwed.
Jay tho will leave yo ass starving if he done with you. Beanie Sigel was down bad for am minute after Jay left him behind smh

Jay is the one I understand the most because if I feel like you on fukkery and refuse to do better or worse think I HAVE to do something for you, I'm turned off. You will not exist and be complaining into the void.

Oh anecdotes and gossip. And yes I'm familiar with the conspiracy that every successful Black man is some kind of faq or sellout. That shyt smell of poor people DuckTales, jealousy and envy. Most this shyt is just gossip.

Stop it man.

Ok show up in 1990 at a label. Nobody knows your face. Name might ring locally. You need to get on radio? Make a demo? film some videos? It's gonna cost the label 10's if not hundreds of thousands. All you have to leverage is your talent not resources. So you give up cuts of future earnings to get money behind you. AFTER you are successful that deal you signed broke start looking funny. You wish you didn't give up as much or your pub etc etc but you had nothing to leverage besides your talent.

You didn't come with a product ready to ship, a home studio where you didn't need industry standard recording budgets or have access to gatekeeper channels like TV or Radio, DJ without the label network. So gave you loans aka budgets Now that they have footed the bill for all that and charged you back with interest you feel a way but that's the game you had to play to make it. That was the shyt back then. Now your label head is the devil because he beat you at the negotiation table.

Do artists get raped? Yes many times but often it's not that black and white. Same artists calling puff a devil get in a time machine go right back to that table with the same lack opportunities while broke and they will sign that deal again. That's reality. That's the game. Don't make nobody a devil. Those deals were signed under duress of poverty not a gun to the face. Those are the breaks. Retroactive outrage is en vogue and corny. Same old narratives. These dudes were shrewd business men. Jay is a nikka that shot his own brother over a chain and sold crack to other Black people but it's his music dealings that make him a sketchy? Man stop running with other people's narratives cuz putting your own thought behind shyt should have you see clearly. You got a bunch of capitalists who wanted it by any means and the irony is if they made themselves on the streets nobody would be taking this shyt. It should not go unnoticed that Puffy has more bad pub than a big meech, Never heard Meech called the devil. What a poisoned culture with a fukked up perspective.

So what knowledge do YOU have that makes your perspective more valid than the next person's?

Puffy’s crew is really Harv Pierre, Groovey Lou, and them and he been with them since the 80s/early 90s

Jay’s crew is really Tah-Tah, B-High, Emory, OG Juan and them, and he been with them since childhood to early 20s before rap

50 and Yayo been down since the early 90s before rap

The tax write offs and employees are not the crew

I am not a fan of 50 in general. .. But he is fair.

Also I think some of his frustrations with his label mates were that they were not as motivated as he was when he got his shot.

Curtis got a million in a lifetime co-sign. Dre/Em. Even with a co-sign like that it is easy to still fumble it.

Curtis was not as talented as other rappers. Matter of fact technically he was not the best out of his camp. But no matter what you can say about him you cannot say he was lazy or did not FULLY take advantage of his co-sign.

He works and works.
