This is one of the most heated arguments in the fandom... a lot of it is because both characters rely so heavily on crazy overpowered special attacks that are way stronger than they are (instant-kill destructo disc vs the Tri-beam that is crazy powerful no matter who uses it, but drains the user's life force). While it's true that Tien continued to train after Krillin started a family with 18, I don't see Tien getting THAT much stronger when he's stuck with Chaiotzu as a training partner (and in normal Earth gravity). I feel like Tien is one of those characters has a certain type of aura around him, just because he doesn't appear that often. If he had been featured more regularly, he would have gotten bodied just as often and as badly as the rest of the characters.

*Note: The clip of the destructo disc failing against cell is anime filler.

For what it's worth, Tien actually WAS stronger in the OG Dragonball era up until the Saiyan saga, and then Krillin surpassed him during the Namek storyline when he got his potential unlocked by Guru. After that point, there's not a lot of data on who was officially stronger. (weirdly enough, Krillin got more shine than both Piccolo and Tien in the Saiyan arc even though he was confirmed to be WEAKER than both of them at that point.)

The creators say that it's Krillin, although Tien has definitely had the better showings post-Frieza. Either way, I doubt that either one is vastly stronger than the other.

I lean towards Krillin, but I admit that I'm somewhat biased since I'm a Krillin fan. He brings more humor and heart to the table that you don't really get from any other character. Every squad needs an underdog, not EVERYBODY can be the stone-faced type tough-guy rival character. Tien is still dope though.
