i always wondered how Percee P might have ended up if he didn't have so little material out there.
guys like Canibus, K-Rino, Chino XL etc..could add Crooked I and Eminem in there too since i don't fukk with their music...they don't move me at all.
i respect the work they put into their craft and all that but 9 times out of ten i don't care for their music..if i have something of theirs on my ipod it's usually a freestyle or from a guest verse...i have nice little mix of Canibus from before the album with his guest verses, freestyles and certain songs and that suits me just fine.
K-Rino, he puts albums out just about every time he has to pay his electric bill..at a rapid rate..which you have to respect considering how much he puts in to his lyrics.
i checked out a few of his album but none were worth staying on my ipod for more than a little while.
its a bit of a trend that all these guys overall music seems to suffer compared to guys like Pun, Rakim, G-Rap, Nas, Gza (although i rarely listen to him like that), Biggie, Jay, Andre who all offered more and they all put you in a zone when you listen to them.
i never really geeked out by ultra lyrical verses like that though, for example;
people go crazy over Decks verse on Triumph..i fukk with it but i'll take his verse on CREAM over it.
when i think of someone who was the greatest lyricist ever i immediately think of Pun because just like the way
@StillNotSoft felt about Crooked, i felt that about Pun.
i remember where i was when i played his debut album for the first time and i think its the only time i've ever been blown away by a rapper.
I find it crazy that cats on the Coli overlook Biggie, of all people, when there's conversations on lyricism. This whole fascination with cats that do double time and string together big words (rippity rap) is funny to me. All those words n!ggas love to put in their raps and they still couldn't craft better stories than a Biggie, or Prodigy, or Ghostface. 75% of the n!ggas mentioned in this thread couldn't even fathom doing what Biggie did on this track:
the most natural sounding rapper ever.
