if eminem was black he wouldnt have ever went diamond.

the fact that macklemore won a grammy over kendrick shows his white advantage.

and post malone used hip hop to make a name of himself just to switch genres.

Eminem's SSLP isn't diamond and several of his other albums aren't either. He has two diamond albums sold, which again he wouldn't have without Dre. He had a career before Dre which was preyty much Monch/Ras Kass status.

I don't think Macklemore should've won over Kendrick, but its the Grammys. Taylor Swift shouldn't have either. I thought Beyonce should've won over Beck. They'll probably give it to Adele over Beyonce in 2017. Lauryn' s won over Madonna. Kast has won over Rock groups. Greater Black artists than Kendrick have lost to lesser white artists. Sometimes you get instances like Stevie's classics winning in consecutive years.

Post Malone is just another artist in a long list of artists (and I use the term loosely) to make a rap record without being a rapper as a gateway to success. Rarely does it work.

eminem even acknowledges it
"Make ladies swoon baby (ooh baby!) Look at my sales

Let's do the math: if I was black, I woulda sold half

I ain't have to graduate from Lincoln High School to know that
"

whites saw that it was a white rapper that was pretty good and stormed towards him.

your skill doesnt sell albums bruh.

and we not talking about other genres we talking about rap. so taylor swift winning over beyonce is irrelevant.

there is no way in hell macklemore should have won best rap album over GKMC. he was a white "independent" rapper so they gave him the edge.

Wale ain't new. Dude is like 30 now with 4 albums. Been around since like 08.

To answer your question though it's kinda hard because the guy attaches himself to every artist that start to buzz a bit and is about to break into the mainstream. I would say Young Thug, Travis, Chance The Rapper, Rae Sremmurd , Dej Loaf, Nipesy , A$ap.

He jumped on asap rocky as soon as asap mixtape was poppin.

And why are people naming Wiz? :mjlol:

He's not a "newish" rapper :stopitslime:

If people are talking about rappers that come out/blew up in this decade, Wiz is a "newish" rapper. Drake, Wiz, Wale, Rocky, Meek, Sean, KRIT, and Kendrick woukd be apart of that. I'm sure there are some others but those are the first I think of. Wale is the only one that's iffy though, as he came out in 08.

:what: Wiz and Drake came out same time, started buzzing same time, they are almost identical as far as "blowing up" time line goes

both had very successful mixtapes in 2008-2009

so how is wiz considered a new rapper but drake isnt :dead:

when these songs came out near the same time;

the argument was who will have a better career cause they both killed that beat same time :heh:

both went on to have successful careers.. drake the bigger star, but wiz not too far behind and has the biggest single out of both of them

Even with Em saying that, he's still doing prime DMX and Jay Z numbers by selling half. Thats if we're taking that line literally.

No skill doesn't sell which is why its irrelevant if white people saw him as good. There's a plethora of white rappers who have come and gone without selling a fraction of what he sells. Eminem sold what he sold because he had a genius marketing scheme behind him. He was the anti Pop Pop artist who rapped. That allowed him to tap into Urban markets, but also tap into markets that no other rapper Black or white has ever had. That's why a Bubba Sparxxx, Mac Miller, Paul Wall, or Macklemore don't do Eminem numbers. He also has Dre who already had a huge suburbanite following.

If we limit the Grammy discussion to just rap. Macklemore winning is nothing new. They gave him the edge because that sappy performance with the LBGT community, Madonna, and Latifah sealed the deal. Same Love, Thrift Shop etc. propelled Macklemore more so than his skin. Thats why he's milkbox material now.
