I would love for Romo to go out and prove that he is elite but that is probably wishful thinking at this point. So ima go with Colin, Matty Ice, or Stafford to step up and become a true top tier QB. Thought many would argue that Stafford and Ryan are already there.
You know that aint gonna happen. The problem is that when you have a QB like Ryan, he's so good on a regular basis you can't ever expect to go in a different direction. Add to that at times Ryan has made some pretty huge comebacks/game winning drives. Its the same w/ Romo in Dallas, even though Ryan is much better in my opinion.
If a team goes in a different direction at QB, it could be a huge step backwards and could cost coach/gm/etc. their job.

Smith and Dimitroff are getting fired after next season if they don't get to the SB. And Ryan shouldn't get more than 6 yr/$80 mil or 5 yr/$75 mil if he doesn't get to the SB. And someone will throw 5/85 kinda money at him if we don't.
No one wants to end up in a Carson Palmer or Jake Delhomme type situation.
I don't think Ryan gets let go. I could see Smith taking the fall for all of this, and Dimitroff probably stays. Regardless, he has put a championship caliber team together. Everyone gonna blame the coaching...

And look at what other teams have done. When they cleaned house (especially if HC & GM are gone), the QB/franchise guys usually go with them. Happened in Carolina and Miami, is happening in Philly, will happen in Houston and New York (Jets), on its way to happening in San Diego, and is one bad Josh Freeman season away from happening in Tampa. Just how it is.
