I think when people say Saban flamed out in the NFL, that isn't completely accurate. He decided he hated coaching in the NFL because you have to rely on the front office to get talent. He wanted Drew Brees and the medical staff said shouldn't/couldn't pick him, and they wind up with D. Culpepper....who didn't recover from his knee injury. So instead of having a good team, they have a team that tries to use Joey Harrington and Cleo Lemon at QB and go 6-10 after 9-7 the first year.

The Dolphins were 4-12 the year before Saban and a total train wreck. The owner did not want Saban gone, and really, Saban just hated it. He had fllipped a 4-12 to a 9-7 in one year...then got a raw deal on FA QBs.

There is a lot to be said for the right QB falling into a coaches lap. If Bill B in NE hadn't have Tom Brady blossom what would have happened? Shanahan with and without Elway...if you don't have at least a solid QB in the NFL you might as well go play Texas Hold Em on weekends.

Pete Carroll went 7-9 and 7-9 first 2 years with Seattle....won big in the 3rd year. If the Dolphins had took Brees instead of DC, who knows what would have happened.

Carroll got THREE bites at the NFL apple....Saban took one bite and spit it out and said...I don't like Apples.

Saban is on his way to the greatest college coach of all time if he rings up another couple NCs.

Carroll went for having a varied resume and scratch an NFL itch and won a SB....but if he had stayed in college would he have survived the sanctions at USC? He really was just getting out ahead of the posse.

People need to give Saban more "props" foe his run in rhe NFL. He wasnt a complete failure. Culpepper being washed is what doomed him

Urbs was great w/Braxton, JT, Josh Harris, Alex Smith, and somewhat Chris Leak. He's won BIG everywhere he has went
What about Brantley & Trey Burton?:mjpls:

This playoff run will go a long way in defining how great he really is

If you don't mind recruiting(and there are a lot of coaches that don't want to deal with that headache), I think a top 5 college job is better than an NFL job.

Around the same amount of pay, more time off, more control of your program, less difficult games.

Pete Carroll thinks 9/11 was an inside job....

steve_zps940a944c.jpg

Last spring, Carroll grilled four-star general, Peter Chiarelli – who had just retired as the US Army’s Vice Chief of Staff – about whether 9/11 was an inside job. Carroll expressed skepticism about whether an airliner really hit the Pentagon, and apparently also remarked on the obvious controlled demolition of World Trade Center Building 7, and the only slightly less-obvious explosive demolitions of the Twin Towers: “Every 9/11 conspiracy theory you can think of, Pete asked about,” said Riki Ellison, an ex-football player turned military advocate who was present at the meeting.

Gen. Chiarelli was understandably annoyed by Carroll’s questions about 9/11. Obviously the general could not publicly deviate from the official story of 9/11 without endangering his career – and perhaps his life. So Carroll was basically forcing Chiarelli to lie. By confronting Chiarelli about the all-too-obvious 9/11 inside job – the biggest barrel of political dynamite in US history – Pete Carroll became an honorary member of We Are Change, an activist group that specializes in guerrilla video “interviews” with suspected 9/11 cover-up criminals and traitors.

By coming out publicly for 9/11 truth, Pete Carroll has joined some of America’s most popular celebrities: Musicians Willie Nelson, Harry Belafonte, Mos Def, Eminem, Jadakiss, Immortal Technique, Henry Rollins, and Richie Havens; actors Peter Coyote, Ed Asner, Charlie Sheen, Martin Sheen, Roseann Barr, Sharon Stone, and Michael Moore; and two of America’s most critically-acclaimed filmmakers, David Lynch and Richard Linklater, all of whom are among the thousands of notables and experts listed at PatriotsQuestion911.com.

Pete Carroll’s reputation as a fearless 9/11 truth-seeker will be the talk of many an American dinner table as Super Bowl XLVII approaches. As the blogosphere drives the topic into public consciousness, the mainstream media will be forced to cover the issue.
