The article just demonstrates that he was a sociopath with extreme views on the world and who showed premises of a dangerous behaviour and that basically he could have been stopped if he would have been diagnosed. Forgot about him, you right, but that actually reinforces my point : it was about the supposed difference of treatment between Black people and White people regarding these types of events. The DC snipers case were heavily publicized, articles were written about them and their motivations, docs and movies were shot about them, reasons were found of at least tried to be found and all that. So IMO, I don't think that one's complexion have something to do about how one is perceived by the media in serial killer/mass murderer cases.

Media tend to try to understand motives in those events because they defy logic. These cases are exceptions and exceptions need to be explained to help "normal" people understand how it happened (and maybe how it can be prevented). I think that article is necessary for people that may be around those type of person in order for them to maybe recognize symptoms and help preventing cases like that to occur again.
