I mentioned this before, but the "rescue hip hop" line didn't come out of thin air. They poured jelly on themselves in a print interview. Reporter asked them about when they bombed at an important concert or showcase. Dude responded "they should have cheered us on GP, because we're not rapping about x,y,z"
Have NEVER taken them seriously after that. Crowds don't "owe" applause to artists. You either rock a crowd or you don't.
Damn I kinda remember this happening. But to be real, Even though I’ve liked their music… they don’t have much that I feel can turn a random person who isn’t familiar with them into a fan. I think their girl records could resonate but a lot of their old shyt is mixed horribly and sounds flat.

Most of the Colin's favorite rappers were rapping before 05. I respect your stance but its still a big no from me.

I don't fault them for trying to better their circumstances, but why Atlantic? If you look at the make up of the label at the time in regard to Hip Hop, their flagship artists were T.I., Lil' Kim, Trick Daddy, Fat Joe, and Twista. Where does Little Brother fit in?

Then when Little Brother was dropping Minstrel Show, it was around the time of Lil Kim's Naked Truth and Twista's The Day After. Of course, the priority was Lil Kim and Twista.

But this argument could have applied to every label in 2004/2005. If they signed to Interscope, why sign to them when they got 50 Cent/G-Unit/Game. Every label had bigger artists, which is a good thing because those artists keep the lights on for everyone else.

That's a fact those mixes were straight shyt! They could have done better with that.

Not every label. What I'm saying is Atlantic wasn't a good fit considering their roster. Interscope definitely wouldn't have been a good fit either. Something along the lines of Def Jam or Capitol Records, which were more in tube with what Little Brother was doing would've been better.

Yea I hear you but them nikkas not that much older than me and even though I have appreciation for the East Coast I'm a southern nikka through and through. 8Ball and MJG, UGK, Three Six, Dungeon Family, ESG, Scarface, Devin, SUC, Playa Fly are more my influences when it comes to music. It's just weird that they were so influenced by the East Coast to the point they tried to make their own version of it with hardly any southern influences at all. They still made great music though.

I'm going on a limb real heavy, but they don't seem like the type who even grew up around a lifestyle to gravitate towards the artists you mentioned...

I read on here 9th had issues with cats down there and that's probably the baseline of the issue...

They just didn't grow up around that

Little Brother getting the major label deal was a win in itsself

I did always wondere why Atlantic never put out the Lovin It Remix w/ Juelz

I'm sure Juelz verse ended up on of those Bad Guys mixtape series Envy would do with Dipset, DBlock and G-Unit
u got a link?
never heard that
