They had a plan and they stuck to it. They were parodying/satarizing/criticizing mainstream Hip Hop on their FIRST album, which got them the deal. So in their minds I could see why they wouldn’t want to switch up. Also the Minstrel Show was critically acclaimed even though the label didn’t support it, if i’m not mistaken a journalist at The Source even quit in protest because they scored the album 4.5 Mics and Benzino changed it to a 4. So its not like they ostracized some huge portion of the rap community
Even in doing that, consciously they'd have to know there would be some push back from the mainstream. Even if the label fully supports it, there's still push back from entities that play a huge role in ensuring a record is successful.
