Pretty much, just wish he was a more consistent lyricist. His songs are all over the place, but I love listening to it because of the nostalgic sound. It can get a bit stale occasionally though. The essence of the old school sound is dismissed very often by young heads - "sounds like you made those beats in your bedroom
" heard that one a lot back when I was more militant about that "real hip hop" shyt. I will say though - as much as I loved that boom bap sound with the samples, I preferred G-Funk from a purely musical perspective. Me too. I'm a lover of lots of different music, although I grew up on Reggae, Hip Hop and 80s/90s RnB. House was something I got into when I started going out more. We'd go to the Hip Hop raves then skip to central to hit up a house rave. Funky House was popular over here for a short while.
It's the chords that do it for me
To me, it should be about bridging gaps. Give it time and everyone's gonna be doing boom bap in a few years - all it needs is one big hit. I believe in hybridising music nowadays in order to create something new, raw and fresh. Hip Hop itself was borne out of such - the rawness of it's early sound was from combining elements of different music, namely funk and reggae. I'd love to hear a combo of that old school sound with something relatively new or mixed with something unrelated.

Plus, lived the culture to know what the exact dangers were.

To the point about the disconnect from the culture.
To not be relevant in real time.
As, it relates to where rap/hiphop is at that moment in business globally and its perception.
To even know what should be handled administratively.
