Can we be real about something?

Lost Boyz should've never been a group.

Cheeks is the rapper. Okay...
Freaky Tah was...the hype man. Okay...was that enough for him to be "in group" status?
He did more than the other two, doe.
I hear Spigg Nice was supposed to be the DJ. I've never seen him do that.
Pretty Lou? He doesn't do anything either.

The other 3 were pretty much around to square dance with Cheeks in the videos.

the crew/group mentality is coming back with young cats like Pro Era, Odd Future & Black Hippy but mostly it's more about label crews these days like MMG etc

Had hope for Pac Div... :sadbron:

...but then, consider splitting money, paying producers, all that studio time when taking scheduling into consideration (try getting 3-5 people together at once to record)...it's just more cost-effective to go solo or have a solo collective that does group songs while putting on their own sets at a show.

That way...instead of paying for a group set and a bunch of other opening acts, you can have TDE (LIVE) ft. Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and Schoolboy Q, you know?

Soundscan numbers for a rapper is a joke, so imagine a group trying to split those peanuts up:heh:

music is a team sport.

this is another reason why the quality is down. everybody isn't meant to be solo.

and its not always a case of everybody wanting to be the star. the labels don't really mess with groups anymore. I remember trey songz saying that he was forced to go solo from his group because the labels were flat-out not signing r&b groups anymore.

and thus, we have trey songz basically being considered the king of r&b right now, but he wouldn't have even been lead singer material in better eras.

freaky tah was EXTREMELY important. he enhanced mr cheeks' verses like a champ.

also, one thing about groups: the dude that's the weakest or "doesn't do anything" is actually a vital member behind-the-scenes on the low. one of the other members of the lost boyz went on to be a big dude in the industry. so he more than likely had a lot of input on their music.
