I have a B8 A4 with a 4 cylinder 6 speed it's fine at low speeds under 60 and tossing around mountain roads. You can really feel the car though.
It's a highway car with range/good gas mileage. There's no top end. I can drive it fast when I want to but it's not easy.

It'll still do 0-60 in 6 seconds or less. That's more than enough for the average person.

The auto is quicker than the manual BTW. I've driven that 8 speed in about 5 different cars and its awesome in all of them.

I would never make an argument that it's not faster than stick. I just find it boring an uninspiring. I enjoy driving, driving an automatic to me is more like a chore. When I drive stick even if I'm only on my way to work it can be the highlight of my morning.

Having personally driven a new 328 ,with this particular engine, and considering that the 428i runs a 13.9 stock in the quarter you're wrong. This cars moves surprisingly well for a 4 cylinder.

It's a good looking car. I just honestly would never spend the money on an automatic car. Gas is pretty expensive in Europe. Most people wouldn't be able to afford filling up a 6 or 8.

Performance is relative. BMW didn't make the 428 to compete with GTRs. This car was made to provide a better driving experience than the comparable offerings from Audi and Benz. Mission accomplished....
