Okay, but how long will that money last until you find another job? For those that's been working there for months/years, I don't think being laid off will look good on your resume.
it's not a layoff, it's an incentive for unhappy people to move on. how many people in america seriously hate their job? getting just a fraction of "i hate my job" ass people out your org opens roles for new people to be brought in who might enjoy/appreciate working there.

no, it doesn't make sense to take it if 5000 isn't enough for you to live on unemployed for a couple months, but if this offer is available for lets say a couple months, it might be the motivation needed to get people to line up gigs elsewhere and GTFO your org.

before people complain about how amazon treats its warehouse workers, just know this is their culture at HQ amongst is "prized" white collar crew as well. i have a lot of friends who worked there, many of whom had the worst year/years in their life. worklife was fukked up and it fukked up their personal life. i interviewed with them in business school and pretty much hated everyone i met except one guy. i declined their offer the same day they made it.
I have tech heads at Google and other companies who say the same shyt. One day shipping comes at a cost you don't see

What's Amazon's end game?

People go into IB and other lucrative fields because the stress is high BUT the payoff is potentially even HIGHER. I could be wrong, but it seems like Amazon money is "good" but not that good. Their stated objective is to keep performance and productivity high.

My hunch is that a constantly revolving workforce is easier to control. New people don't rock the boat much and accept whatever you give them. More experienced people get burnt out quickly except for the special snowflakes that simply love torture. Anyone that's inclined to dissent and poke holes in Amazon's business model won't last long enough to do it. The people that stay, love how things are done and usually perform at a high enough level not to get canned. Of course the problem with that, is that dissenters and wet blanket-types tend to notice flaws that others don't catch. Amazon doesn't want self-reflection but that's usually how a company stays relevant. It won't happen right away but they'll go the way of Blockbuster and the Dodo bird.

As is mentioned in the article, this is probably a bad deal for most employees. Amazon is notorious for being a terrible place to work though, which goes for warehouse and corporate positions alike.

I worked for amazon
I literally meet over 5 people who said Amazon was the WOAT Job they ever had:mjlol:

My experience wasn't that bad , the only thing is it's so damn repetitive that you'll get burned out after a few days

Amazon lays off a lot of people and they have to pay severance for them and the unemployment rate gets a bump. Trump sets his sights on them in the press.

They pay people to quit instead and this all goes away silently. Makes for good press "headlines" as well.
