Exactly. Not realizing that if you have a way of words, gift of gab or what have you....become an attorney lol or if you have a knack for business, get some like minded friends & open a business - franchise, whatever. So many different ways to get good money.

This is true and I put the blame on their upbringing. Realistically you cant tell your kids that they can be and do anything that they want. And the entitlement usually stems from being spoiled as hell and not having to work for shyt. They need to understand reality and that shyt is hard out here in these streets.


Oh, and pride comes into play too much too. If your unemployed talkin about your too good to work a fast food job and you would rather sell drugs or be on unemployment.. . SOmetimes you have to suck it up and just do shyt you dont wanna. But our culture tells us and our youth that they dont have to do what they dont want to .

True, and a lot of these cats look up to these sports stars & rappers....see the fast money & cars. Not realizing most are broke after their career is done or everything is rented, they getting raped by their label.

They're looking up to the wrong role models. These cats need to immerse themselves in somebody like Thurgood Marshall - a Supreme Court judge, had an airport named after him, made an actual difference for our culture, etc. The Black Excellence thread is full of folks who can become one's role model

The point is, a lot back men aren't living up to their potential because they have unrealistic dreams without any type of fall back. In the end those same guys end up in dead-end careers, unhappy with life, and end up complaining about black women on the coli. It's pathetic really. Everyone can't be a rapper and a basketball player. Why is that the dreams of so many black men given that it will only be the reality for a few?

I think this thread is not about lowering ya standards but rather to live up to them. You can want a dime all you want no one is shytting on that but the question that follows is what are you bringing to the table to obtain said dime.

Out of all the black men you know how many realistically want to be a rapper or athlete? I don't think the problem is that bad.....plus a lot of those people who want to be rappers wouldn't be doing shyt otherwise.

I think it mainly has to do with black men being the bottom of the barrel in society in terms of wealth and accomplishment (outside of a few athletes and musicians here and there)
