Why are Democrats so afraid to say they're for legalizing recreational marijuana?

Seriously. It's EASILY an issue that most of the country agrees with them on.

About six-in-ten Americans support marijuana legalization

About six-in-ten Americans (61%) say the use of marijuana should be legalized, reflecting a steady increase over the past decade, according to a Pew Research Center survey. The survey, conducted in October, finds that the share of U.S. adults who support marijuana legalization is little changed from about a year ago – when 57% favored it – but it is nearly double what it was in 2000 (31%)..

Not only that but it would be a great way to get millennials to vote. But yet Democratic politicians are still scared for the most part to say they support it, like they're scared to offend Republicans or something. And they've barely even called Sessions on his BS. :snoop:

It seems beyond obvious they should be making this an issue and they aren't. Anybody have thoughts on this?

because they're corporate whores

they might send out a few low level scrubs to say this, but the top brass is completely bought and paid for. they know who they answer to, and it isnt the voter

Hillary Clinton Promised Bankers She's Against Cannabis Legalization

i cant even begin to describe how disappointed i was with second-term obama's "action" on this issue. he was a spineless coward

Nah, I can't really blame Obama.

There's not much Obama could've done with the GOP in charge. And I don't even want to think about the racist shyt that Obama would've had to deal with (whether you want to admit it or not) if he pushed for marijuana legalization.

breh im not blaming him for not legalizing it. im saying this dude wouldnt even utter the words "it shouldnt be a schedule 1 drug". all we got out of him was a "well, it probably isnt as bad as alcohol" and "ill let states operate", which he didnt even say out loud. thats why i didnt give a fukk about that sessions story; nothing was actually taken away from us

as far as the racism, while its not really my place to speak on his experience, im hard pressed to believe that those people didnt already have that opinion of him. and again, he didnt have to be the face of it

I think this is a big part of it, which is crazy to me. They should have long stopped worrying about offending conservatives and trying to gain their support, especially after Donald won.

The ironic part is they would probably gain some conservative supporters by getting behind legalization.

Because they think if they go too far left or too liberal they'll scare off "reasonable republicans" or some shyte. Only issue is "reasonable republicans" don't actually exist.

That and a lot of democrats are weak pieces of shyt who are bought and paid for by corporations. :yeshrug:

Thing is, there are Libertarians in the GOP who also support legalizing weed. It's one of the things the progressives and libertarians agree on.... the other is curtailing the surveillance state

shyt's ridiculous. if you go to a dispensary you'll see 80 year olds (healthy looking) buying weed. theres a huge subreddit of people combining weed & keto, they're in the best shape of their lives & smoking weed daily...they should also legalize shrooms, dmt & lsd while they're at it....

most of these politicians are completely removed from regular society, and aren't good arbiters of anything...i don't think anyone that grew up rich (2 parents that both made over 30k) should be in government...they don't have any real life experiences & are dumb as rocks....

check out the documentary 'aka tommy chong', where this states attorney went out of her way to entrap tommy chong for selling pipes....it was a long con involving a fake buyer that hassled his business for like half a year....all that trouble & funds wasted for what...

Mary Beth Buchanan - Wikipedia

and its the same thing w/ gambling....a couple of states have halfway legalized it, now that most people approve of it.....as of now its mostly run offshore by untrustworthy scumbags (filipinos, costa ricans), when it should all be done here & hassle-free....

You can't really blame federal politicians for being beholden to corporate interests. They don't have a choice.

It's not that surprising. Medical Marijuana is favored by 80 percent of liberals in NC, but recreational legalization is only 51. The numbers are about 9 percent lower for both for conservatives.

That said, off the top of my head:

Federally people want full decriminalization.
Prisons want their prisoners.
Most people see medical Marijuana is a scam because if we're being honest it doesn't take much to get medical card.
If the state legislatures are against it I don't expect their federal representatives to go against that grain.

Based on the numbers it Shouldn't be a partisan issue.

It's easy to get anyway so a lot of people don't stress it as much.

Holy shyt, I completely blame them. It is antithetical of how it is supposed to be. They are elected to carry out the people's interest not a corporation and it's profits. Which are made off the backs of the people.

Sure it's antithetical to how it's supposed to be but they didn't make the rules. It's actually not possible to make it that far in politics without a huge campaign budget. Ask any campaign manager, and "putting money on television" is the only way to win. There's no way to raise that kind of money unless you're: a) rich (in which case, why the fukk would you go into politics?), or b) taking money from corporate donors.

If you want to blame someone, blame the intellectually lazy American populace who allow TV to form their view of the world. Democracy relies on a selfless, civically engaged citizenry. American culture is antithetical to that.
