Why are drugs still illegal?

If we see how much violence and death is caused by drugs being illegal, and know how much money is set to be gained by decriminalizing them, then why haven't they done so? I have an uncle who went to a foreign country twenty years ago and has created an empire that pulls in near 100 million dollars per year. He wants me to take over for him since I have a business degree, but I could never do such a thing since I am a moral person through and through. There are thousands of people who do not share my morality though, and thus, here we are. Discuss.

The government makes money off it and with how religious people are, you know that's gone go with the public. Prostitution should be legalized too.

People have to pay to get out of jail, and privatized prisons have to be kept full, or they can sue the city. Drugs are an easy way to put (black) people in prison.

The whites get taxpayer funded rehab, or can afford a decent attorney (not a public defender) to keep them out of prison.
