Why are drugs still illegal?

• Politically, its unwise to push for legalization because the oldest and most dedicated voting block is firmly for drug laws.
• Drug use has been associated with violence and the masses can't quite grasp the irony of the drug laws themselves possibly causing far more violence.
• Drugs are an easy way for law enforcement to apply their legal power against whom they choose

I'm firmly pro-legalization, but I do realize that people may commit violent acts when under the influence. However, there should be no leniency for being out of mind. I see no rational reason to stuff people in cages for merely possessing or using drugs.

Because only a small percentage of the population shoots up heroin. If heroin use were as common as eating fast food or drinking alcohol, the average life expectancy in this country would probably go down to 40 or 50

I know people addicted to H and their lives are miserable and depressing to be honest.
I don't believe in persecuting drug users or dealers who don't engage in violence. But heroin is not something that people do for fun like coke, it always reaches a point where people need to keep doing more and more of it just to not be puking and shytting all day
