Because they are. The height you posted is the kind of height that you get due to a bad diet. Asians are getting taller and it is not rare to find Han Chinese who are at least 6 feet tall. The Cantonese in the south tend to be short because of their diet. Germany has an average height of 5'11" because of the site there. If all men had a good diet average male height would be around 5'9".

Is shanghai cantonese? Cause I went to Shanghai, and it was pretty rare to find a dude taller than me. Im 6 ft and i saw it maybe twice. On guy was like 6'6 but generally i could be on the metro and see from one end to the other clearly over everyone's head

5'6 is not average for a man in the US. in some parts of africa the average for man is 5'11-6'0, the Dinka tribe is an example and so is the country senegal. i think 5'7 and under is short for a man. short isn't always a bad thing.

Most people have poor perception of height. The average American man is 5'9"(5'10" for Cac males, take that with a grain of salt.), I would say most judge height on paper rather than in person. It's the reason why you see 5'8"-5'10" guys claiming 5'11" or 6'0" and no one seems to blink an eye.
