This is not meant to be pro centrist or anti progressive. But Biden outperformed Ilhan Omar by 16 points. That leads me to believe the idea that the Dems lost in the House because they weren't progressive enough is silly.

Furthermore, do you think someone like Bernie Sanders would have got many of those 80k Biden-Perdue votes?

Let me try to unpack this for you.

For one just know that gerrymandering is what keeps Republicans in power at the state level in many states. The presidential elections are gerrymandering proof because it just counts raw votes state wide.

So it's not shocking that biden would win and Democrats would lose seats in the house and not win enough Senate seats.

For two, centrist democrats try too hard to appeal to republican voters. They dont have a consistent platform and cant motivate their own base, so they try to appeal to republican voters. This in many instances only validates republican positions which makes it easier for republicans to keep winning.

When moderate democrats criticize progressives, they not only hurt the party as a whole, they weaken their own platform.

It's gotten so bad that they had Republicans speaking at the DNC, and republican PACS helping with campaign ads.

Basically democratic centrists have pushed themselves so far to the center, that they are not center anymore, they are moderate republicans. If I'm a republican voter, I'm going to vote for the legit Republican and not a democract posing as one. And if I'm a democract I'm not going to vote at all, if those are my only options.

And for the record. Omar and all the other progressive candidates won comfortably and decisively. While biden needed progressive cities like Detroit, Philly and Atlanta to actually win those swing states.

Only dishonest actors are arguing either way on this. "The Squad and Company" still won by large margins with their elections being targeted by alot of money. "Moderates" losing in some cases were not because of their policies necessarily but their way of campaigning is outdated and lazy.

Basically the Dems need to change some of their tactics. Get more grassroots on the ground and less consultants sucking air out the room.

Policy strategy is another discussion where I can see Both Sides® but apparently some of these candidates aren't even doing the basics.

Covid killed that.
It's not just about door knocking though. They need to give some power to these local organizations that get people registered and interested in the candidates. That was done in Georgia to an extent.

Some of these people just want to do bland TV ads and a rare speech and call it a day when the opposition is literally running a well oiled propaganda machine that doesn't care about the rules.

This can’t be said enough. People are more willing to vote for their incumbent if everyone is attacking them. It means they are not just important, but also trying to upset the current system. That’s why the money is being spent to primary them and try to make the general competitive.

Republicans get primaried when they don’t go far enough right, Dems gets primaried for not going far enough right.

Wish I could rep you

Are these moderates actually Joe Manchin types though? If they're anything like Biden himself, then they are certainly not like Republicans in any way.

Also I think that progressive stances on social issues are generally way less popular than progressive stances on economic issues. The GOP tried (with some success perhaps) to tie the Dem party to the riots.

I also doubt that someone is actually a progressive if they sat this election out.

Yeah I think it really comes down (and came down) to getting the right people registered to vote.

That was necessary because Trump got a bunch of rednecks to vote and it could have won him the election.

True I honestly believe this gave Republicans a leg up.

People were able to see candidates in person and build some type of trust with them.

I doubt most people in NC could recognize Cunningham by face.

It absolutely gave them an advantage. People in here were really acting like that wouldn't benefit the GOP.

Honestly, I think moderates are cowardly with their platform, but many physically stopped campaigning in the summer and working with organizers. If you don't know who you are voting for, why vote for them?
