Why are most women so un-athletic?

To answer the OP. I think it has a lot to do with socialization. Growing up, I didn't get into sports because I didn't want to be perceived as a tomboy. I regret that though because I think athletics is a fun way to stay in shape.

That being said, I did play softball/baseball. I also took tennis lessons but I've never played regularly.

I read somewhere that women are less encouraged to be physical as kids and spend more time sitting still than boys.

There's also the fact there's not much reward in playing on female sports team in terms of recognition so a lot probably aren't motivated to do it

Agreed. That was my experience. I spent a lot of time with my great aunt growing up (she was an old school southern woman born in the 1920s) and she would always discourage me and my female cousins from being too "active and wild." We were discouraged from doing the things that boys did...

That's more of a skill, like throwing and hitting a baseball is a skill.

If you want to measure athleticism, look at their 40 time, how high/far they jump, how well they move backwards and sideways, like they're a cornerback or a lockdown defender.

All those things are more innate and have to do with fast twitch muscle fibers and testosterone....that other stuff is more of a learned skill.

My theory is that women aren't as athletic as men because they don't want to be.

There are plenty of male nerds who are as nonathletic as the average female because they don't play sports and have no intentions to.

One of the guys on the team said that a woman would never be a great ball player because they can't dunk.

Me: ..... Dunking isn't everything.... I'm dropping j's in anybody face

Him: ..... .... Let's go... Horse


Me: .... Aight.... bet

Him: tomahawk dunks from damn near the free throw line on the first go round (he's was a 6'1 guard with hops)

Me: .... .... .... I proceed to take one of the mini scorers tables and place it in front of the foul line.... Now I'm cooking with grease.


I start running from the half court line and jumped off the table...


Him:

Me: I two hand dunked .... But I have never dunked before so I didn't know you are supposed to hold on to the rim until you get your feet under you.

... I let go too soon and am falling flat on my back on some Type fall...
My silly behind tries to catch my fall and ended up having multiple fractures in my wrist...

most of the chicks i surround myself are athletic and play some type of sport. usually basketball, swimming or soccer. some of them be playing sports more regularly than me these days too.

i guess it's who you hang out with.
