Some yall are only skimming the surface of nfts.Imagine being able to verify your RM is real by it the nft associated with it.Im in a project right now that will grant its owners access to monthly events .Instrongly suggest everyone take the time out to learn about decentralization, nfts ,blockchain, and fintech or you will be in the rear view.

Also OP, the reason that piece is so expensive is possibly because it was created by an already well known and established artist, making it a collectors item as well as an attractive work. No, its not a quick fad hustle for any jack ass with a copy of Photoshop.

Again when the day comes that decent AR glasses and VR headsets reach that $100-$200 price range and we are all interacting with each other within dynamic, photorealistic virtual reality spaces, artwork will be just the beginning of what people begin investing in.

This kind of stuff is already happening.

Because they can.

Also money laundering.

And people following shyt because they think they can make a quick buck.

Basically. Folks aren’t peeping how all of our possessions are slowly becoming digital.

Rarity. Most art isn’t valuable, but some artistic pieces age well because of their demand and scarcity, but also regardless of the economy, the value of art doesn’t dip. You can’t really put a full price owning the only variation of a Picasso.
NFTs are a similar concept but digitally.

Itll make more sense in a few years when VR headsets AR glasses and metaverse stuff becomes affordable for everyone (as Facebook is on the forefront of pushing right now). Thats when buying and owning digital assets will really take off. You sure wont be able to copy and paste that nor will that matter. The people investing in digital assets now are anticipating the future.
I was just playing around with a quest 2 today for the first time. I can definitely see VR taking off and becoming popular in the future.

The art is only a small part of it.

Think of it like a way to make a traceble ticket to virtually anything. And that ticket could be bought or sold.

For example, say im a new artist, i sell my first album as an NFT. Sure you could copy the files. But then say i make it big. I could decide that whoever owns the NFT of my first album gets paid royalty points of my next album. Or i could decide they get free entry to shows of my next tour. Also, it could be specified via smart contract that if the NFT is resold, i get a 10% cut. Again, we are just talking about art. But there is most likely different business ways to use this tech that haven't been discovered yet. It's like asking what exactly is the purpose of the internet back in 1995.

Here's a vid that gives examples of potential use cases

You don't see how crypto is basically the future at this point?

Have you not been paying attention to what's happening with the world's economy
Yea, but it’s not for what some ppl here think. Ppl are excited. I’m very aware it’s the future, however that future is going to be the worst period in human existence.
